2025 World Junior Championship discussion thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Sweden has announced their WJC team. Montreal defense prospect Rasmus Bergqvist is on the team (7th round, 2024).

2025 draft prospect Anton Frondell won't play at the WJC. He's not having a particularly good year & is injured again. His 3rd injury in 10 months.

Victor Eklund (2025, ranked top 15) is on the team.

USA has announced their 2025 selection camp participants & four 2025s have been invited:

G: Samuel Hillebrandt (Barrie, OHL)

D: Blake Fiddler (Edmonton, WHL) & Logan Hensler (Wisconsin, NCAA)

F: James Hagens (BC, NCAA)

Cole Hutson, Lane's brother, is also at camp.

So was Misa not invited because of the teddy bear incident or were the invitations made before that?

Someone also called Sennecke might be left off in the draft thread.

Ridiculous then and even more with the way he is playing.

Strange selections by Team Canada

They just added him to the Selection Camp roster. Cowan has a minor injury and can't participate in camp, so they had an open spot for the camp.

After not being selected, Sennecke had 14 pts in the following 3 games. Lol

Great tournament
Which Hab draft pick is playing this year??

Only Rasmus Bergqvist (LD), our 7th round pick from 2024, is confirmed to play (Sweden).

I expect Mikus Vecvanags (G), our 5th round pick, to get selected for Latvia; however, at best he's #2 or #3 and may not even play. Latvia's starter will be Linards Feldbergs, of Sherbrooke Phoenix. He's having a solid year for them.

I don't expect Koivu to make Team Finland.

So only 1 prospect this year.

Based on what's known thus far, it's for the best that Hage didn't get the invite. The early locks suggest Team Canada is putting a premium on role players this year, so the top talents are purely fighting against themselves rather than having the opportunity to show they can fill multiple roles.

Finland will announce their roster in 3 days, Koivu has just returned after being out for over a month so no clue what that did to his chances as he was seen as having a decent chance but was very much on the bubble. He should be a lock for next years I would think.
