WC: 2025 Women's World Championships

Swiss roster was announced on Friday.

Switzerland fills up its last spot by adding Mara Frey, leaving Japan as the only ones not bringing the maximum 25 players allowed.

Hungary has yet to release its roster. IMO, I expect it tomorrow, just before they travel to Czechia on Saturday, ahead of their second prep game against Norway on Sunday.

In the second prep game of the day, a full one with OT and SO added, Norway lost 4-1 to D1A's Slovakia (2-1 in reg, SVK winning both the OT and the SO).

Emilie Kruse Johansen scored Norway's lone goal after only 1'12 of play. Slovakia's goals came by Ema Tóthová, Lucia Drábrecová, Nikola Nemčeková and Julia Matejková.

One game tomorrow with Finland and Sweden facing off in Tábor, Czechia.

Pat Cortina released Hungary's roster. They are bringing an extra player just in case. 9 players are making their Senior Worlds debut, including naturalised Madie Leidt and Isabel Lippai. Main players missing are Hayley Williams, Alexandra Rónai and Tamara Gondos.

Finland wins 3-2 SO over Sweden today.

Schalin and Nylund scored first for the Finns, before Hjalmarsson and Thuvik tied it back in the third. Holopainen gets the GWS.

Ahola (16 saves) and Kyrkkö (13 saves) shared duties for Finland while Boman (24 saves) played the full game for Sweden.

The last 3 pretournament games will take place on Sunday.

- Hungary vs Norway
- Germany vs Japan

Sorry for the delay.

Results from Sunday's games

Sweden blows a 4-1 lead after 2 to lose in OT

Germany also makes a comeback to win their's over Japan

Hungary also records a second win in pretournament games.

Yesterday, rosters were officially registered. Alexandra Cservjacsenko is cut out of Hungary's roster.

2 changes from Germany's original team Lucia Schmitz taking Nina Christof's place as announced by the DEB last Friday. Christof injured herself during the warm-up of their first preparation game against Switzerland. Anna Rose also had to stay home as she fell ill and is replaced by Mathilda Heine.

Despite breaking ribs during the PFWL finals Naemi Herzig was never officially removed from the team until yesterday. The Swiss are going with only 21 skaters instead of the maximum 22.

The IIHF launched its own streaming platform last week, yet the page dedicated to the Women's Worlds still hasn't been updated 2 and half hours before opening game.

Not much luck myself. I would have missed Sweden vs. Germany anyway because it was on at 5 a.m. my time, but if I try to see what's available for me now that the USA is playing, I get a message that this content is not available in my region. Makes enough sense since the game is on NHL Network here, but it would be nice if there were a schedule posted.

Apparently simple VPN does the job

Sweden picks a commanding win over Germany, The US make short work of Finland and Czechia kicks off its home tournament on a shutout. Crowd showed up 5,066 on average on Day 1 as the organisers are looking to reach 100k+ spectators for the first time in the tourney history.

3 449 would be needed average.

2 - 0 usa

Nice showing for Czech ladies so far. I was expecting about 5 to 0 today. So we are about on track. Crowd is amazing so hope we can sneak in a goal.

Would be good for hockey as a whole. I may be a USA fan, so I want to see our ladies win the game, but I will always advocate for the sport as a whole. Your Czech ladies are doing nicely enough. Shots are 38-10 and the score is 3-0 (well as soon as I typed this it became 40-10 and 4-0, but still). Just because I want the USA to win doesn't mean I don't hope that everyone else does nicely. The more teams there are that are competitive, the better.

Maybe in 5 years. We have a lot of young players. Might be ripe for an upset closer to 2030. But the is and Canada programs are not exactly slowing down.

Well done Finland! You deserved it.

SIlver lining... I have a longheld belief that is hard for top teams to beat each other twice in same tourney. So, if we meet again, I take us becuase of my silly 'rule' (which is rarely disproven but certainly not a lock)
