Good final game to the tournament. Happy thr US win and good work to the Finns who were a bit outmatched but scared thr US and absolutely had their opportunities

They straight up owned the first period. I thought Finland was going to blow that game wide open. Credit the US for getting their feet under them in the second and third and pretty much dominating the OT.

Such an awesome win. I'm in that camp that thinks the World Junior tournament has lost a bit of the luster it had in the late 00s-early 10s, but I thought this year had a lot of fun moments. Latvia, Kazakhstan's comeback against Slovakia with 2 shorties, and the QF/SF/Medal round games all delivered in some way.

was really surprised to see the overtime played 3on3! even MORE surprised to see very little puck ragging (leaving the o zone). i expected the game to be over with all that space in the first two mins surprised it lasted that long mostly because the finn goalie was lights out.

How come our Fin Lenni didn’t play? Is he aged out? Thought this would have been his last year of eligibility at 20 yo
Ya, he is 20 this year, which is the year the tournament ended, so he’s too old.

Missed the cutoff by about 2 months.

2024-2025 IIHF World Junior Championship player eligibility

Upper age limit: Players are eligible if their 20th birthday falls in 2025 (January 1 to December 31). Even if they turn 20 during the tournament, they can still participate. However, players whose 20th birthday occurs in 2024, before the tournament begins, are not eligible as per Thehockeywriters.”

the main problem is that the NHL doesn’t advertise it and ESPN can’t air it. I haven’t been able to legally watch a game in years.

Unfortunately Traff’s birthday was on Dec 31 2005 so he can’t go back next year. Missed the next one by 1 day.

Appreciate the refs letting both teams play yesterday. Normally the IIHF reffing is a little bit more nitpicky. Specifically they made a great no call when Ryan Leonard clamped his arm down on a Finnish player's stick and then did his best to act like he was being hooked.

Next year's WJC will be in Minnesota, unfortunately it's looking like a couple of average/below average USNTDP classes coming up so there might not be up and comers to replace Buium/Leonard/Perreault/Augustine. I guess we'll see if Connelly/Eiserman can handle more responsibility next year.
