i was skeptical canada would have the appetite to carry both parekh and yakemchuk, that mightve been a bit too high roller, but i figured one could be the dedicated PP QB. its pretty shocking they chose to register mynio instead of SOSing one of them with schaefer out now

It’s stupid but shouldn’t be surprising at all. Hockey Canada is a joke of an organization.

I would’ve taken both from the start too

I really hate the changes the US has made to these jerseys recently. The version they had with Jack was so much better. These are perfect.

100% should have taken Buium, the Devils got caught up in there being too much redundancy in style with Luke, Nemec, and Casey.

If it was that much of a dealbreaker, Helenius should have been the fallback.
I’m not huge on Helenius either but ya I think honestly think Buium ends up as a top 3 player in the draft. Or at least top 5.

How much politics goes into the hockey Canada selections? Political decisions are almost always going to hurt the team
a lot. hage keeps getting overlooked because he went ushl->ncaa route (and hes not some undeniable player like celebrini), pinelli made the team because he plays for the coach in ottawa, there were murmurs (from grant i believe) about something non-hockey related to sennecke when he was in the u17s, and so on. this year feels extra bad
Not that it matters - but if Russia was playing in this tournament we might be having a different discussion right now. Not taking anything away from Zeev BTW, just think Silayev would be very impressive in this tournament.
russia wouldve been a legit juggernaut in this tournament, such a shame we dont get to see it

Tomorrow is going to be a banger day. Switzerland/Kazakhstan could be some fun. Latvia/Finland could turn out to be very very interesting. Sweden/Czechia and US/Canada are going to be great.

There’s a decent chance Latvia can end up with the 2 seed. Need US/Latvia regulation wins for that to happen

Traff didn’t get the Swedish player of the game so no Arts & Craft gift from Canada for him.

You’d think the watches European host countries typically give would shame them to step up their game but nope. Get excited teen boys, some hippie painted you something.

This was me watching the Devils and USA/Canada at the same time. Every time I looked back at the WJC game it seemed like a new PP was starting. Definitely advantage USA there and they went 3/7. I thought Canada had the better of the play at even strength.

Canadians were trying to goad Zeev Buium into taking penalties early which seemed like a smart tactic. But Canada took a bunch of undisciplined penalties later in the game.

Czechs knocked out Canada last year.

The US powerplay was awesome. Really made Canada pay for taking all those penalties. Loved seeing the guys really enjoy being the villains in Canada and shutting them and their fans down in Canada.

Avoiding the Czechs in the first knockout game was huge too. There is absolutely 0 reason they shouldn't blow out the Swiss. No excuses.

and if Silayev was playing AND we’d have taken Zeev, we’d be saying “Buium looks great but is there room for him after Luke, Nemec, and Casey?”

Good to see that Hockey Canada’s long standing stance that 17 year olds need zero adult guidance continues here.

Pinelli’s the Captain of the OHL team coached by Cameron so I’m guessing this is a feature and not a bug.

There really is a correlation between life and sports. If you don't discipline kids on the ice or the field or court, they will take it as a license to be undisciplined in the real world and all of a sudden you're in a world of trouble.
