i love how they bothered to write up a full chart for the schedule just to write “NHL Network” after every single game. Even the medal rounds won’t make it to a real network. :shakehead

I signed up for NHL Network yesterday and I'm going to cancel it right after the gold medal game ends. I do the same thing for the worlds.

Yeah I know, right?

I'm glad Bratt declined an invitation to play (because of *cough* *cough* Medical concerns *cough*) as the last thing we want is for him to get injured here.

Of course there's always the 4 nations faceoff thing (whatever that is) in February but we'll cross that bridge when we reach it....
I meant more that we aren’t in a position to have to watch a fan glom onto prospects anymore.

huh

Matt Schaefer and James Hagens both looked really, really terrific yesterday. Going to be a fun race for #1 overall in 2025.

As far as 2026 goes, holy cow McKenna is something else.
not to get too far ahead of myself but i really hope we get to see a USA Olympic team with Eichel, Matthews, all the Hughes brothers, the Tkachuk brothers, and Hagens in either 2026 or 2030. That’s an otherworldly leap in skill level compared to what the US sent to Sochi.

Holy shit Latvia just tied it up 1-1 late in the 3rd against Canada

Welp that didn’t last long. Took a penalty and Canada scored right after

AND LATVIA GETS A PP AND TIES IT WITH 2:30 TO GO

I don't really get how people get this bent of shape out of young adults playing for their country if they lose like what Canada fans are saying. If Team USA is bad, I just shrug it off as whatever but it was still cool to see guys who most likely have one chance to play for team USA play in this format.

Canada is going to regret not having Kevin He on the team.

Their roster construction was god awful for this tournament

Darn, no NHL Network at my parents, that would have been a fun watch.

Canada could still win Gold and I wouldn’t be shocked. While they did leave some skill at home, I’m always still annoyed when people use the loss as an excuse to claim their snubbed prospect would have single-handedly changed the outcome. One indelible declaration that stayed in my memory was an Oilers poster saying Canada would have won in 2012 if they had taken Tyler Bunz over Mark Visentin or Scott Wedgewood.

Hockey Canada loves weakening their own team as much as possible before tournaments. Stupid galaxy brained roster decisions.

Their D group looks terrible and they left their two most talented dmen after Schaefer at home (Yakemchuk and Parekh, both top 10 picks). For a bunch of 2nd and 3rd round picks who are good junior players but not nearly as talented or translatable to higher levels. Almost as bad as when they didn’t take Clarke.

Instead they have Oliver Bonk who sucks quarterbacking their powerplay (which he doesn’t even do for London) and playing every other shift. Oliver Bonk sucks FYI and shouldn’t have been anything close to a first round pick IMO.

Really really bad roster choices. No Yakemchuk or Parekh on D, no Kevin He, Michael Hage or Tij Iginla at F. Absurd.

The D decisions are stupid. Hage is stupid but just a political decision. He is not that big of an omission despite how well he’s doing and Iginla is just hurt.

I think those two D being left off is far away the dumbest decision. Their two most talented D after Schafer.
