According to blick.ch 2009-born Jonah Neuenschwander is also in Canada fighting for a roster-spot altough not being on the official roster-list.. He played 5 games with the NL-team of Biel (1 A) and is 1 PPG in the U-20 league at the age of 15.

EHC Biel announced that long ago. It's as stupid as it gets. He's not better than Körbler, Bosson or the forwards on the camp roster. Just let Neuenschwander play NL now that he has the chance to do so. f*** the SIHF!!! They change their opinion of a player based on a handful of NL games. Stupid clowns.

Crazy decision as I said in his prospect thread as well. Gives you the impression that Jenni and his homeboys are just stat watching on EP and are composing their roster based on that. Unless you want to have him a big role on the team its stupid to take him to camp. And for that he is still to young. There are a lot of potential downsides to this for him such as falling out of the first team in Biel and the extra fatigue that this brings to. Lets not forget he is still a very young kid that only played in the U17 league last season and in the U15 league two years ago.

It's only now I noticed that Bosson isn't even listed as a possible replacement on the extended camp roster. So small Simon Meier who can't even dominate a terrible junior league is good enough to crack the camp roster but big, physical Bosson who is playing in a middle six role of what's probably the QMJHL's best team isn't even good enough for the extended camp roster? Lol.

I kinda get that Körbler is only on the extended list because he hasn't been fully healthy for a while now...but Bosson not even being an option is...interesting.

I wouldn‘t have selected Simon Meier aswell but i don‘t think he‘ll be cut since he‘s a returnee and played alright last year

I didn't really pay much attention to the Swiss roster before but damn, is this not one of the strongest Swiss teams in recent memory? Frankly I can't even remember the last time I thought "oh wow, this roster seems really good". Now I don't know if it's better than Slovakia but seems pretty competitive, at least.

I'm not sure I agree, they are lacking elite talent. Having 2-3 difference makers, a PP QB, etc., can be crucial at this level. Some key pieces are missing to make a deeper play-off run. They are very deep, though. Actually, the one thing that seems perplexing to me is how they can afford to play a guy like Reber on the 3rd line, it would seem that he would be best employed in the top 6.

Yeah, surely I'm not arguing about the deeper run potential, more like you expect games against Slovenia and Czechia to be somewhat tight. It felt like in recent tournaments they would only come to win one game.

Then again, looking at their actual results maybe that's just my projection onto these past teams.

Slovenia won't be there. In case you mean Slovakia...those games have always been tight. Slovakia has become Switzerland's arch rival at WJC's. I don't recall many loopsided affairs either way. Games are always close nail biters. Recently we've seen lots lots of close games vs better teams, too. Just look at last year's WJC20 out. Beglieri played his heart out only to get scammed by the refs in OT where they missed a blatant Swedish trip only to call a highly questionable, controversial penalty vs Dionicio. Yeah, the game was only close thanks to Beglieri but Switzerland honestly should have won.

Yeah this swiss team looks very good for your standards which is funny, since the 05 birth year was quite weak during their U18 times.

Really looking forward to the game against Slovakia this year, because looking at the rosters, it could be as tight as it gets,

I do. Absolutely. However, we have to remind ourselves that Beglieri was fantastic all tournament long. Both Neuenschwander and Kirsch are better than Beglieri but they have to deliver at the WJC20...goaltending is always a risk factor at WJC tournaments and Swiss teams tend to need good goaltending to be competitive with equal or better opposition.

Yeah. Many 05 born players kinda got their career back on track. Not necessarily to play in the NHL but certainly for a good career in any other league. I feel like there are more kids than usual playing in the Swiss pro leagues. There are also a few Swiss players doing well in the CHL and in Sweden. Which is why this Swiss team is pretty good. It does lack elite talent but there's fierce competition for ice time and even for spots. Some very good prospects didn't even get invited to camp.

He is also not better than the guys in Biel, wjc20 and NL are both valuable experiences for him when given enough ice time.

He is because they have lots of injuries. They called up 07 born Manuel von Rohr in his place. You really wanna tell me he's better than Neuenschwander? He's a legit prospect in his own right but not better than Neuenschwander. He played 70 seconds as 13th forward in a 5-2 loss vs last placed Ajoie. Neuenschwander should be in Biel, not in Ottawa.

I think the team looks really good on paper but some of the more notable players don't seem to be exactly in the best shape of their lives. This goes mostly for the goalies as both Huet and Kirsch seem to struggle in NA. Kirsch couldnt even stick with his USHL team although he might work his way back to it through the minors in the near future. Neuenschwander doesnt have a bad season in Switzerland but the jump from the Swiss U20 league to the WJC is just huge. Then you have Muggli and Ustinkov on D who dont appear to have made a lot of progress since last year. Steiner who had a red hot start to his Q season also significantly cooled of in the last few weaks. The team also seems to lack an offensive catalyst like Dionicio was last year. But as far depth goes I would be hard pressed to think of a team in the past that had this much quality and pro experience.

Yes, there's no more Dionicio. Yes Muggli and Ustinkov don't appear to have made a lot of progress but the latter at least played well in international games this season. Also, this year's defensemen are gonna have much more offensive upside than last year's. Last year it was really just the Terraneo/Dionicio duo creating offense from the back end. Even if Muggli/Ustinkov end up disappointing or not making the cut you still have lots of potential on the back end. It's gonna have do be done by committee but Balestra, G.Meier, Schneller and Johnson are all dynamic defensemen able to make plays.

I am not denying what you are saying and I think that the d corps is better overall than last year. But sometimes a hyper dynamic player i just more valuable than several dynamic ones. Especially at this tournament. Last year when the team needed offense they just gave the puck to Dionicio and the latter could create almost always something for them. That element just seems to be lacking for this years team. And you cant really compensate that with depth alone.

Yeah and definitley better than 01,02,03 aswell in their year. 2000‘s were good so the team this year needs to play really well to surpass that

Yeah that‘s true. Most players play NL now which is of course a lot better than the u20 elit where our guys were playing back in 2023. And they 06 birth year is very strong aswell with 07 Steiner who improved a lot this year.

That‘s true for me Lars Steiner has the potential to be that but maybe not this year. Most of our pro experienced or drafted players are strong two way players but not flashy high end players, even Muggli as a second round player. The game against canada was a lot closer than score suggests but our Goalies were weak and our team can‘t compensate bad goalies with offense as you stated. Our hope should be to play with our high pace, and avoid getting scored on. If we score 2-3 goals per game we should be fine. The D corps from this year should be better than all the ones from 2021-2024 except maybe 2023 with Bichsel but besides him it wasn‘t that good.

Von Rohr in Biel's lineup again but didn't play a single shift in a 2-1 SO win vs Davos. Meanwhile, Neuenschwander is in Ottawa. No words could possibly describe how stupid this is. f***ing SIHF clowns.

Cuts:

G.Meier
Wagner, Embacher

I strongly disagree with cutting Gian Meier. Not only is he better than other defensemen on the roster. He was also by far the best Swiss player at the WJC18 and cutting him means there are only two righty defensemen left on the roster. Stupid.

Had to check the roster three times to make sure they actually cut him. No real excuse for this as you pointed out already. I guess its not a real WJC without the usual headscratcher selection from Jenni and friends. Thats a christmas tradition I wouldn't mind seing thrown out next year.

For the record, Switzerland beat Latvia 5-1 yesterday. Goals scored by Johnson, Dorthe, Sansonnens, Steiner and Reber. Reber and Dorthe with two points each. Neuenschwander started again, this time replaced by Huet who gave up the lone Latvian goal.

Neuenschwander didn't look good vs Canada but he started both exhibition games, is the only goalie who played in both.

Not registered:

Ustinkov

Neuneschwander
Wey

Hinterland meltdown incoming :D

But its true why bring him along when you are not gonna play him at all? I hope he doesnt just get a couple of minutes vs Kazakhstan.

Its also sad to see Ustinkov reduced to this state. Not to long ago he was basically the most hopeful prospect of our hockey. Now he struggles to make the U20 line up. Was really solid in last years tournament too. But his lack of improvement when it comes to decision making with the puck seems to have really caught up with him now.
