2025 Usports Recruiting

I think you will see more CHL's come to Usport, the top players will go NCAA to the top schools, but a lot of NCAA schools provide terrible education and they will become bottom feeders for hockey as well.

You will see some kids take the better education in Usport and the hockey could be in between Top NCAA and bottom feeding NCAA teams. So they will use the OHL school package, get a free and better education and still play hockey

Maybe in the future but we are at like 140/180 overage players committed to NCAA schools

Edit- I guess it’s like 100 overage kids , 140 CHL players total

A Fredericton connection with him, his brother Logan was a pretty good d-man with the Fredericton Red Wings , currently playing ACAC hockey, probably would have been a CIS guy if he’d come along after the rule change.
Leighton was the 3rd overall pick in the QMJHL draft…obviously never lived up to that ranking, but hoping there is some untapped potential there.

This comment on the quality of education is wildly inaccurate. Canadian universities do not offer a better education. For serious student-athletes, I would recommend most NCAA Div I universities ahead of many USports universities.

The main source of variability in education quality is between programs, not schools. A UAlberta student taking General Studies or a BA in History is going to get a worse education than a UMaine student taking Finance.

Well i guess we will have to agree to disagree, Div 1 playing for Alaska will not help a person get a job downtown Halifax, but a degree from StFx will and UMaine would help if that person stays and lives in Maine, but if they move back to Alberta they are screwed. Certain schools i agree, any Ivey, or the top schools (Michigan, Mich St, Notre Dame) they will all help the person, but the others will sadly miss the mark as the job market in Canada won't be impressed with a degree from Lindenwood

There's nothing to disagree on. I have been a professor at both USports and NCAA Div I universities. I have taught and mentored Div I athletes and USports athletes. The degree program is infinitely more important than the school name.

You cite Lindenwood as one example. There's not exactly a line at the door for graduates of Trinity Western or Ontario Tech either.

Correct, we both can provide those examples on either side of the border, but depending on the advise the player is getting we might see more CHL players coming to Usport depending on the program and career path they are choosing

Louis-Phillippe Fontaine took his agents advice and de-commited from UQTR in favour of Lindenwood.

One of the sad business side of sports, agents/advisors get paid if the player goes NCAA, they don't if they go to Usport, hopefully the move wasn't motivated by $$$ and it was for the betterment of the player

Definitely have heard some horror stories of “advisors” in lower level junior hockey taking advantage of players and parents
