Rumor: 2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency | The Aftermath

With the complete lack of picks, I really hope the Avs go after any of the decent NCAA/CHL/Euro UFAs. Go grab Quinn Hutson, TJ Hughes, Carter King, Matt Davis, etc.
Hopefully those guys look at Malinski's path and see the potential.

Ignore the others lol even though I do believe the Avs gave every opportunity to guys like Meyers, Pavel, and Polin to claim NHL spots

Russian journalists on the future of Zakhar Bardakov:

Khairullin: "According to my information, SKA forward Zakhar Bardakov will sign a rookie contract with Colorado"

Shevchenko: "The situation around Zakhar Bardakov from SKA is unclear. His contract is ending, the club made an offer, but at this stage everything has stalled, for some unknown reason. Bardakov, it seems, will not go to the NHL for the end of this season, however, it is possible that he will rush there in the summer. Apparently, everything depends on SKA's offer."

Is Bardakov a power F? What line is he projected to play at? Future Lawson Crouse?

I used to watch 17 year-old TJ Hughes when I volunteered for the Brantford Junior B team. Crazy that he could make it to the show. Just the other day the Oilers signed Josh Samanski, another former Brantford 99er.

So...next years roster with Gabe back full time gets interesting cap wise.

Right now we'd be at:

Mack - $12,600,000
Landy - $7,000,000
Necas - $6,500,000
Nuke - $6,125,000
Coyle - $5,250,000
Lehky - $4,500,000
Colton - $4,000,000
Wood - $2,500,000
LOC - $2,500,000
Drury - $1,725,000
Kelly - $825,000

Makar - $9,000,000
Toews - $7,250,000
Girard - $5,000,000
Manson - $4,500,000
Middleton - $775,000

Blackwood - $5,250,000
Wedgewood - $1,500,000

Altogether I believe its $86,800,000

That would leave them with $8,700,000 to fill out the rest of the lineup.

In theory they could not trade anyone and make this work pretty easily. Coyle shifts to 2C, Drury to 3C. Drouin re-signs for ~$3M, Malinski for ~$1M, Lindgren for ~$4.5M. But you lose Nelson to UFA for sure and probably would need to trade for a 2C again next March.

Roster wise it would look something like:

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - Coyle - Necas
Landy - Drury - Colton
Wood - Kelly - LOC

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Lindgren - Malinski
Middleton

That's.... Not horrible? 2C sticks out of course but the winger depth and the defensive depth would be pretty noticeably quite strong honestly.

If they want to bring Nelson back... Colton for sure goes IMO. Then they probably need to find another ~$3M in savings elsewhere to fit Nelson in. There's definitely a few spots where that space could be saved, for example you could replace Lindgren or Manson with a ~$1.5M-2.5M 3LD to save a good bit, replace Wood with a $1M winger to save a chunk, not re-sign Drouin and replace him with a ~$1.5M winger, maybe they separate themselves from Nuke(I wouldn't but we don't know what may still be ongoing behind the scenes with him)...

There's plenty of options but honestly I'm wondering if they take the easiest route and just let Nelson walk, and see what Coyle can do at the 2C spot and what Drury can do at 3C especially with some quality wingers.

I for one will miss Kivi if he walks this summer. The dude just seems to always be available and is about as low maintenance as they come. Really hope he and the Avs can agree on something.
I think he’s earned himself a nice little contract that will be to expensive for the Avs taste. And I hope he gets it. He’s been awesome here in a depth role.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking to. I figure the Avs would go as high as 1.25-1.5M for him simply because he's always healthy and can basically slot in anywhere. He can't score with the top six but he can at least skate with them when absolutely necessary. But seriously, he can play either the left or right side and provides honest effort damn near every single game. I don't think I've ever accused the dude of dogging it out there. I've accused him of using less of his brain that I do upon rare occasions but he's just a tremendous bottom six player through and through. And his scoring touch has been inching upwards a bit this season to boot!

He’s scored well this year, but he’s also 100% on a shooting % bender that isn’t sustainable long term imo. He’s been great on the 3rd line this year but realistically he should be on a 4th line. I’d absolutely bring him back at the right price, but I wouldn’t blame him for getting the bag.

Nice run down. They paid through the nose for Brock and although his offensive output so far is average, Bednard praises him. I really think they'll do everything they can to sign him. They've had a hard time with the center position in the last years, I think they'll want to keep it a strength.

I think that means Colton and Wood are gone.
And they'll choose 2 of Manson-Lindgren-Drouin.
Kivi walks.
Malinski gets shoved a 1 year lowball RFA contract down his throat with an apology.
$900K to fill-out the rest.
If they went with Drouin and one of Manson-Lindgren, that will mean a weaker 3rd D pair (Malinski + $900K), which will be the prime target on trade deadline, with a 3W.

That would be a nice line-up.
7 top 6 forwards + Coyle as 3C, with Drury-LOC-Kelly as 4th line and a hole as 3W.
Good top 4D with a weak 3rd pair
Same decent goalie tandem
