Rumor: 2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency | The Aftermath

Funny to see the idea of trading Lehkonen gaining traction here after that idea got shot down immediately when I proposed it a couple of weeks ago. If you can get a young 2C or 2RHD then its something to consider for sure, especially as you'd still have Landeskog/Nichushkin/Necas/Drouin as top 6 wingers.

Look at each of the individuals who are getting on board with it and you can understand exactly what's going on here.

Would you really get a young #2C or 2RHD for Lehkonen though?

I wouldn't pencil Landeskog anywhere until he actually starts playing and shows how he does.

Eh, I'm just tired otherwise I'd be shouting "No" to this lastest iteration.

It's not that I believe Lehky is untouchable. I just believe you should be touching a lot of other players first, so I think it's kind of silly to start planning with Plan D, instead of Plan A.

I'd trade these 4 players before trading Lehkonen.

Lehky is one of the best bang for the buck in the NHL + he's clutch + he's a playoff performer. No contending team will trade a player like that.

How durable do you think Lehky will be? I agree with all of your points but there are other considerations.

Very low on assets. They can maybe package Gulyayev and some first rounders and after that there is almost nothing left.

Things would have been much better if CMac didn't spend a truckload on his #2C quest.

Ya, just get kadri's deal done.

Byram is just such a missed opportunity. Very few cup winners have a number 4 overall pick on an ELC and was a stud in the playoffs.

Cap doesn't stagnate for three years and then have small $1M jumps the next two years and both are probably still on the team. Who knows how that changes their results after the Cup. So annoying.

Trading any of your top guys would have to be a hockey trade imo. Who cares about assets in the context of where we are at in our contention window.

In my opinion it would be a matter of moving those assets for another player rather than holding on to them. Kinda similar to what we did with the picks we got from Rantanen

I 100% agree with this line of thinking. Targets could be players like Pinto, McLeod or Mercer to varying degrees.

How would this be any different than leaving the spot open for Jost, Newhook or Mitts? Mercer, I could be convinced would be worth it, but I doubt NJD could be convinced to give him up for Colton and Wood.

They’re both 6’3”, both of them will likely be 20 goal scorers after the year (McLeod is 1 away), both appear to be defensively reliable.

I think there’s an argument that Mercer is the most Jost/Newhook like of the group. I also think comparing all of these players (Newhook included) to Jost is a bit of a disservice to them.

I'd trade Wood, Colton, Manson, Girard, Coyle, Wedgewood, Drury, before I would ever entertain trading Lehky. Guys like him don't grow on trees. Would be utterly stupid to trade him.

I don’t disagree with the first part and my original post said as much. With that being said, it really depends on the return. He’s a player that could potentially receive extremely strong value. I’m not saying they should move him just to move him, but he is definitely not an untouchable player.

Yes let's trade one of the most clutch playoff performers in franchise history (and a guy your franchise player has gone on record to say he'd trade ten 1st for) for another young 2C or a middle-pair D. Brilliant stuff.

2nd RHD... I really still don't see any evidence that its a core long-term piece that we need. To me, its just a piece we should keep adding during the deadline and hopefully get 1/2 year out of. 2C is different; as soon as Kadri got here; we gained a new gear.

He said that because he was originally upset with what they gave up to get him but went on to win the cup. Don’t act like he wasn’t being hyperbolic to emphasize how much more a cup means to him than the future.
