Speculation: 2025 Trade/Free Agency Thread

Who would we offersheet? Bourque? Is it really worth it? He is the same level of player as Colangelo to me.

Similar production in the AHL, especially considering who Bourque had as a linemate. He had a lower PPG then Colangelo with a very similar utilization in the NHL. They are the same age, like 2 weeks apart.

Don't get me wrong, I would love Bourque for free or even consider trading for him. But is it really worth offsheeting?

The only other guys that are worth it would cost a 1st, which is a complete non-starter as far as I'm concerned considering who is at the top of the next 2 drafts.
Bourque is also several inches below the Verbeek Mendoza line...

What would you be looking for in a Pageau deal? Pick, prospect, young NHL player? I think the Ducks are probably ready to move on from Lundestrom and Leason if either of them interest you for the Isles’ bottom 6. Of course none of this matters if Pageau won’t accept a deal to the Ducks anyway.

A few of us have been calling for Pageau for awhile now. We are historically terrible at faceoffs this year and it needs to be addressed. JGP could play the wing anywhere in our top 9 and take a ton of draws for whichever center struggles most. We need a veteran 4C with faceoff chops as well.
I agree...I was speaking about his value at the TDL. That said, why would the Islanders trade him this summer for less than he'll be worth at the TDL?

EDM apparently offered picks, saw a tweet that it was a high pick in the future but Isles want prospects.

My guess is a D prospect would be the price.

As mentioned, Ritchie going to be on the club next year, I think the idea is to trade Pageau, use the cap elsewhere and plug Ritchie in.

He's still a top 3C in the league IMO, playoff guy. I just think we need to clear a way for a younger player ready to step in.

Makes sense. Granted that Nelson's value is higher than Pageau's but I suspect that the Islanders would be looking for a prospect that could legitimately play in the NHL next year. The Ducks should not be giving up an NHL ready prospect for one year of Pageau IMO.

I was going through hockeydb to see what dmen you've drafted in the second or third round as a potential piece, Luneau looks to have really skyrocketed in value so he's out. Tarin Smith would work for me, Konnor Smith looks like he should be lugging logs in Western Alberta, Noah Warren doesn't seem to be progressing, Don't know what to make of Ian Moore or Tyson Hinds.

This is me just guessing of course, I'd take draft choices myself and be fine with it. I do understand the need for prospects to bridge what we haven't been doing well the past few years.

Also I'd take Johnston back. I miss his face.

Ya the org loves Luneau and I think they see him as top pair potential.

I’d be hesitant to move Ian moore, we’re weak on right side…. And he’s looked pretty damn good in AHL, I think he’ll get nhl games this season.

t smith prob makes the most sense…. And prob expendable…. Tho at some point I imagine 1 of Mintyukov/ zellweger will be moved. helleson Luneau and moore will be battling for a spot with big club in offseason.

Tarin Smith for 1 year of Pageau? Yikes.

Agreed. The Ducks need to add a clear goal scorer. Tonights game against Edmonton has also reinforced my opinion that Strome needs to not be centering Terry anymore, and the Ducks need to target a 2nd/3rd line center for him.
Marner has to be had no matter the cost.. Him with cutter and Leo... Unstoppable

Was talking with a few teams about the Demidov signing. It’s believed there were two aborted trades at last year’s draft that could have changed history. First was Chicago’s offer to trade their 2026 first-rounder (unprotected) for the fourth pick, which the Blue Jackets turned down. (They took Cayden Lindstrom.) Second was the Canadiens’ own attempt to acquire Trevor Zegras. I’ve never received complete clarity on why that deal didn’t happen, but I suspect it's because the Canadiens changed their minds when they realized Demidov would fall to five — although they were not offering that particular pick in the Zegras deal.

I got my posts deleted for posting about this. Going to be hard for the mods to keep their heads in the sand now that freedman has said it haha

Logan Mailloux + 21 (Hage) for Zegras + 2024 2nd. We would have taken Solberg with this pick instead of trading up with Toronto.

Thank the good Lord that didn't happen, Christ. Where did you hear that?

What do you guys think about Ryan Donato? Is he an inconsistent breakout player like Vatrano, or one-hit wonder?

I’m not holding my breath for Marner, and I’m not a fan of Boeser, and Verbeek doesn’t look like someone who would make an offer sheet (Knies!). I think the odds are we will miss again, but I think it’s ok as long as our youth keeps moving forward.

My guess is Verbeek will again turn to low risk trades hoping for some value like Dumoulin/Fabbri that only takes a mid-round pick. What do we think about these underperforming forward options to hold things down until Sennecke is ready?

-Kevin Hayes: size, starting to get good on faceoffs, expiring contract. Leason replacement?
-Colton Sissons: good on faceoffs, expiring contract, right shot. Lundy replacement?
-Kirby Dach: maybe he can be of some value like Cody Glass turned out, right shot, expiring contract. Leason replacement?
-Ryan Hartman: 2 years left, but has produced inconsistently, gritty, right shot, below average faceoffs.

I think the realistic UFAs would be:
-Ryan Donato: might be willing to take a Vatrano type of 3 year deal.
-Jack Roslovic: Right shot, first year doing well on faceoffs… poorman version of Boeser?
-Tanner Jeannot: probably won’t happen especially with Ross still on the roster, but I’d like him and he might be cheap so why not.
-Trent Frederic: probably won’t happen but again I want players who can give space to our skilled forwards. He probably gets paid though…
-Brandon Tanev: a Fabbri/Mcginn replacement?
-Andreas Englund: probably the best cheap physical LD to help Gudas/Trouba who look worn out.
-Luke Kunin: right shot, gritty, but below average on faceoffs.
-Nico Sturm: maybe this offseason Stenlund, faceoff ace but unfortunately he shoots left.

No interest in Donato, imo if we add a forward they should justify taking opportunities from younger players. I lile the scissons idea for 4c. Doubt we add a D ubless we trade one of the kids.
