Speculation: 2025 Trade/Free Agency Thread

I don't think on his own he would be worth too much. If there are better options I am fine with that too. Scissons/Dvorak are some other intriguing faceoff guys.
Perhaps but if Henrique got a 1st I would think Pageau could get something similar. Either way, his value is higher than Verbeek should be willing to pay given his age and contract status.

I’d only look for a minor FA add over the summer and if the team takes a step forward (with a new coach) look to make a move at the TDL. Start trading 1sts when we are looking like a potential playoff team to fill whatever holes we have.

Players like Rico and Pageau have more value at the deadline. Prorated cap hits and more certainty about where your team stands and what it's needs are. Rico never would have fetched a 1st in an offseason deal. Pageau won't either.

I agree...I was speaking about his value at the TDL. That said, why would the Islanders trade him this summer for less than he'll be worth at the TDL?

To make room for Cal Ritchie? For extra cap space to upgrade the roster? Just for a shakeup because they are stuck in mediocrity?

Are there any good young forwards that we could trade one of our d for, like a drysdale trade part 2? Any teams starving for a you nhl d? Would have been great to get Holloway from EDM before he blew up but we got Cutter right before so I guess I can’t complain.

I wonder if the Predators plan to hold onto both Stamkos and Marchessault, they likely are going to take a run at it again next season but if they decide to blow it up I wonder if we could get one of them for cheap due to contract size. I have my doubts we get one of the big 3 UFA forwards, and i'm ok with it, but we need to be creative to address that top 6 scoring winger.

I still think Mavrik Bourque in Dallas is a perfect offer sheet candidate. The Ducks have plenty of cap and in no danger of retaliation. Dallas cannot sign him for 4.5 mil next year if want to re-sign some of their other UFA/RFA players. It would only cost the Ducks a 2nd round pick, and he would look good centering Terry. Seems like a no brainer if he's willing to sign.

Do we really want to entertain offer sheets with our plethora of prospects?

As JAHV implied, the reason teams target players for offer sheets is if they think the current team can't match. The Ducks can match any offer sheet with as much cap space as they have going forward. So I don't see any reason why a team would even try.

For how long before we start running into issues?

Even if Knies isn’t a RHC or RHD that we need, I think he would be a great target for an offer sheet if the Leafs prioritizes signing Marner and Tavares first. I’m not sure what the 2025 ranges will be, but if we could sign him around 7 million and only lose the 2026 1st and 3rd it would be worth it. Or a poor man version like Cuylle for around 4.6M for a 2nd, although I don’t think the Rangers are as cash strapped.

Too bad Peterka isn’t a right shot and strong on faceoffs because I’d prefer him at around 9+ million and losing a 1st, 2nd, 3rd over a Marner for 14+ million for 7 years. I’d take a long term contract with JJ over a 7 year term for Marner at 28.

I mentioned Peterka offer sheet about a month ago. I like where your head is at.

We drafted Jacob Perrault over him unfortunately

What makes people think Bourque is a better option than Colangelo?

Not a replacement for Colangelo but a center of Terry. Strome is not good enough or long-term. If they are set on Zegras not being a center, then there is a hole at that position. Bourque is young, and, if he signed around 4.5 mil, he would only cost a 2nd. The offer sheets have worked out very well for St. Louis so far, and it is a cheap way to acquire young talent.

While we better not be terrible next year there is still zero chance I'm moving an unprotected 1st that could (albeit extremely unlikely) end up Mckenna. Move this year's 1st if necessary. No offer sheets that would take a 1st though.
The time the Ducks trade their future 1st is exactly when that pick will win the #1 lottery lol.
Of course it will happen if they trade their first in the McKenna draft.
