Speculation: 2025 Trade/Free Agency Thread

Since it’s been brought up in GDTs recently, my flag is still firmly planted in the “trade Gibson” camp. Possibly your last, best chance to get something enticing in a package for him with how weak the goalie market is this offseason, and I know that he’s been playing well and you want to manage a young goaltender, but at this point, the guy is the victim of so many fluke occurrences that he can barely handle being a 1B. A gust of wind knocks him out of a game; a stiff breeze sends him to IR week-to-week

Reminds me of when Steve Nash was on the Lakers, it was like he got injured just putting on a Lakers jersey and if Santa Ana winds were acting up he'd get injured from that too. He may have even gotten injured from sitting on the bench wrong when the coach subs him out.

Can coaches be traded ?
Cronin to Boston Bruins for Future Considerations.
Next day the Ducks social media account says Welcome back Future Considerations we have missed you.
Boston Bruins assign Cronin to janitorial duty.

Gibson has made countless brief trips to the IR this year - and i feel like this happened last year too maybe. Theyre never super long absences and serious injuries but they are long and frequent enough that it causes a lot of disruption. I really get the feeling this is his last year with the team, which is a bit sad from a nostalgia perspective. I don't like saying stuff like this but with Gibby in particular i wonder how much of these frequent absences is because he's just frustrated with never contending.

Pat will have to find a legitimate backup for Dostal if Gibby is moved, i don't know if Lukas is ready for a full-workload - We can't have a backup of Husso's stature. Gibby has played pretty well this year so we will likely be taking a downgrade in net next year no matter how you slice it if he is indeed moved.

It's blatantly obvious he is so over our team and wants to move on. We just need to pray that he doesn't give up altogether in his remaining years.

Gibby is injury prone. He isn't a player who gave up this season. From Money Puck:

Goals Saved Above Expected
Dostal: 15.6 (14th best)
Gibby: 15.3 (15th)

Goals Saved Above Expected per 60 min
Dostal: 0.340 (16th)
Gibby: 0.588 (7th)

I don't think Dobson is a fit. For the assets he would take the Ducks would be better served moving for a top 6 wing. Pageau makes a lot of sense though.
Also, I don't know which Dobson we're getting. The one who was a Norris candidate putting up 70 points? Or the one with good, but not great, offense and who has intermittent struggles in the defensive zone?

I'm worried we would have to pay in both assets and money for the former while actually getting the latter.

That’s my worry with paying him 8.5 million

Pageau is pretty obvious. Isles will play Cal Ritchie very likely in that 3 hole next year, that’s Pageaus spot. There is a fit
What would you be looking for in a Pageau deal? Pick, prospect, young NHL player? I think the Ducks are probably ready to move on from Lundestrom and Leason if either of them interest you for the Isles’ bottom 6. Of course none of this matters if Pageau won’t accept a deal to the Ducks anyway.

A few of us have been calling for Pageau for awhile now. We are historically terrible at faceoffs this year and it needs to be addressed. JGP could play the wing anywhere in our top 9 and take a ton of draws for whichever center struggles most. We need a veteran 4C with faceoff chops as well.

Stop gap of course. Until our young centers season a bit more. Gaucher would be his replacement in time.
Agreed but stop gaps should come cheap. But I think that the Islanders would probably just wait and trade him at next year's TDL for a 1st+ rather than trade him cheaply in June.

I don't think on his own he would be worth too much. If there are better options I am fine with that too. Scissons/Dvorak are some other intriguing faceoff guys.
