Speculation: 2025 Trade/Free Agency Thread (TDL is March 7th)

Bummer for Buffalo and their fans. They don't deserve this leave of ineptitude. I feel for them.

From a Ducks perspective, I don't see why he would choose to play here. He has a full NMC, and the only reason for the trade would be to be in a winning situation. The Ducks do not fit that category.
His NMC doesn’t start until July 1. Not that I think we will trade for him, or even that he will get traded at all, but if there is a chance, this is the only offseason where it’s possible.

We need to fix our faceoffs and get a guy who can really play on the top line with zegras and Carlson.

Top line rw
4th line ace center / pk

Killorn needs to bought out. Would be toxic and ineffective on the 4th line.

Killer is one of, if not our best defensive forwards. The guys always speak highly of him. You get a good 4th line center and it just becomes a 3b line, and he has the added benefit of being able to play up and down the lineup on any given night. No, I would not waste the money to buy him out.

If things arent working out with however the roster ends up being put together, you can eat 50% or include a 3rd team and eat 75% of his salary to send him somewhere else.

As frustrating as it has been to watch Killorn fumble Carlsson/Zegras passes or fail to get the puck to them when they're open, he's been a stabilizing force on that line. That line needs a guy like Killorn (good forechecker/defender, smart player, willing to go to the tough places on the ice) to succeed. They just need a better version of him.

I wish I had an easy answer on who that guy is, but I don't. But THAT is the guy I'd love to add over the summer rather than someone like Ehlers.

For the record, I'd also be happy to pay Mitch Marner all the money to come here since he's a superstar, but that's not going to happen.

Wish we could have gotten Toffoli instead of Killorn, he's been great with Smith & Celebrini

The rebuild continues...

to year 4 next season. We're still a work in progress, but at least we know Dostal is the goalie of the future and LaCombe looks like a top pairing D in his second season in the NHL. There might be something between Cutter-Mac-Colangelo (or Mac-n-C's), with Cutter and Colangelo in their rookie season.

I still expect to go after a top-6F this summer.

The Ducks should be all over Dallas this offseason.

Getting Marchment for free would be awesome.
Sequin is also a great option. His contract was front loaded and gets a 6 mil bonus on July 1st. If they trade for him after he only makes 7.8 mil in cash over the next 2 seasons. They could take him for free retained or even get an asset with him if they take his full cap hit.

Maybe I'm missing something but why do you think Dallas will be in cap trouble next year? All their core players are signed and they currently have over $5 million in cap space for next year. True, they may lose 1 or 2 of Granlund, Duchene, Dadonov, Ceci, or Smith but will that really matter to them? They'll likely fill the roster with a couple of rookies and minimum priced UFAs and move on. I've seen much worse cap situations that got worked out. Seguin has a full NMC. They could trade someone like Marchment but it won't be for free or anything close to that IMO.

Where would we put Seguin? At 4th line center with Killorn?

Bourque alone should cost 3+ on a bridge deal.

They still need to sign like 5 players with 2 mil in cap space.

I’m in favor of anyone who can upgrade the roster that doesn’t require absurd assets to acquire or massive $ and term commitment (unless it’s the right player).

I think this is the first offseason where we’ll actually try hard to get better in the near term. In past offseasons maybe they’ve “tried” but it’s always been the mentality of “well if we don’t get that guy, it’s all good we’re rebuilding for another couple years anyway”.

Interesting. Brett Leason has 4 points less than Bourque this year (in 5 less games)...I'm sure he'll be surprised and pleased to learn he is going to get a $3+ million contract next year!

OUT: Killorn
IN: Top 6 Goal Scoring F, Bottom 6 Face Off Specialist

This alone will catapult us into the playoffs.

Also, just want to point out, for all the doom and gloom the Ducks are 7 points out. High likelihood we don't make the playoffs but again WAY closer to playoffs than being SJS or NSH

So what is the Ducks forward group going to look like next year?

Z - Leo - Top 6 UFA
Vatrano - Strome - Terry
Cutter - McTavish - Colangelo
Bottom 6 UFA - Lundy - Killorn

Out: Fabbri, Johnston, Leason, Harkins

I have no issues keeping Killorn for a PK and Bottom 6 role.
