I just don’t get it. I like enforcers. But I want one who either legit enforces, or one who goes out and at least hits everything that moves legally. Johnston is good for doing one of the two every 10-20 games, when he has the ability to do both. Frustrating.

I agree. I’ve grown sour with him. He finally does seem like he’s trying to check more and do more. But even that in itself is very annoying. Like wtf hasnt he been doing that his entire time in Anaheim? I would claim reeves and waive Johnston probably. But if verbeek likes ross as a locker room guy. And maybe sees reeves as not being a good guy in the room. Then there’s no chance

I can't even imagine what a signed Rantanen would cost in terms of both assets and dollars but I'm not sure I'd want to pay the price today given he'll be 29 shortly after the 25-26 season starts.

But does he hit things? I’d take the physical wear on the other team;s defensemen over what Johnston brings too much of the time.

It's a similar issue where he doesn't get around well enough to be effective at it anymore. His shifts from what I've seen are mostly chasing the game trying to hit

Our 1st is kinda irrelevant at this point, especially if somehow we made it a 2026 first , we have sennecke coming up needing a spot. We have a surplus of d prospects. Hard disagree here.

I agree with your sentiment on the impact on the team. I believe Carolina would want a Necas type return for a signed Rantanen. I doubt the 1st or Zegras or any of the young D moves the needle for them (they already have Morrow and Nikishin waiting in the wings). McTavish and Terry would be closer to the deal IMO. They'll want players that can contribute now and in a big way.

I dont want him, but I could see a scenario where he would rather goto the Ducks. LA keeps putting themselves through the washing machine, trying to irk out one last run before they lose Kopi and Doughty. They are good-ish in the short term but at some point soon, they are going into a full on rebuild. If you are looking at an 8 year deal, do you want to be with the team that half way through your contract are going to be selling, or would you rather sign with a team where the first year or two might be rough, but they are setup for the future?

To be fair, I would guess he doesnt want to goto any west coast team.

I think the best modern enforcer is Mathieu Olivier, and he just earned a good contract from Columbus.

Terry, zellwegger +2026 first . All the while we keep Zegras and Mac. Terry being older than them is the odd duck out. Zellwegger is behind minty and Solberg for me in our future.

Curious, what would you package to get rats? I know you aren’t that high on him, but curious what your biggest package would be to get him and feel comfortable about it.

Personally dont even want him so Id pass but in a hypothetical world where I would go after him, it would have to be less than what the Canes paid COL.

They would want a scorer back, so Id have to imagine they would be asking for Terry, maybe Cutter.

D is where we can afford to give up the most but Im not sure that would even be something the Canes were interested in. Same with picks, they are going to want player to help them now.

The more I think about it, I dont think we are in on Rats and I dont think we should be willing to part with what it would take to get him.

Carolinas Gm is scrambling right now. It’s very very clear, that rats won’t sign there. Trading for guentzel and rats on back to back deadlines and losing them both a couple months later is getting you fired.

I think they knew Necas wasn't staying past next season so they set his value as what he'd be as a rental. Ish.
