I don’t think they’ll offer both but one of them plus a 1st and possibly another solid asset (Laferiere or Greentree) I could see

Makes a big difference whether you are talking about a signed or unsigned Rantanen. An unsigned Rantanen is probably worth Lafrerriere and a late 1st in a bad draft. But I don't see anyone offering a ton for an unsigned Rantanen. I suspect Carolina will just roll with him for the playoffs and hope that lightning strikes.
I agree. No one is going to give Carolina more than about half of what they gave up for him. At that point, you might as well keep him and hope for the best. And it's a reasonable hope; Rantanen has to be motivated to start producing or he's going to cost himself money on his next contract. The way he's looks the last 6 weeks, it seems like MacKinnon was carried him to a good portion of those points. If he's not a PPG player with Carolina by season's end, that's not a guy I'm paying $12 million for.

I just can't see the Canes turning around and trading Rantanen for a futures package. That would be a really tough sell for a team that has a shot to win now. Would think there needs to be a legit top 6 forward in any deal. An LA deal I think would end up being something like Fiala + Clarke. Maybe Dallas is willing to do something around Robertson with a Rantanen extension in place?
Very nice job by PV there. Can't pass on that and now Minty and Zell get to play every night.
Lafrerriere would be a really good pickup for Carolina. Young and improving and can play in the top 9 right now.

I’m not sold there will be one. Dumo was an interesting one just because in theory the team may actually be better with him gone, despite him being more than serviceable. This doesn’t strike me as a “sell” move in itself
I don't there is much of a market for Gibby, or pending UFA/RFAs like Lundy, Leason, or Fabbri. But this is the last time Verbeek has to tinker his lineup a bit. I'm hoping for some out of the blue low cost and low risk darts. At least some nasty forward and dman who will play with desperation to give our skilled players some time and space the rest of the year to focus on offensive production and the worst power play in the league.

Fabbri, maybe Leason or Lundestrom?
Acknowledging his faults, Fabbri could be valued by a contender to be a fast, pacy, high effort 4th liner. Can tire out opposing teams and may get some increased scoring luck in a new environment. I still could see a team paying a 4th for a retained Fabbri.
Given Gibson injured again last night, have to assume that pretty much ruins any possible chance there was to trading him. Rest of the pieces we have wont bring back much. So unless Beeker has a forward target out there, could be done.
All three have elements that I like about them, but all three also have glaring issues too where I don't think teams would pay a premium for.
Fabbri is in his prime and has the hustle, speed, and enough skill to produce to be a complementary player, but he been historically injury prone and he hasn't produced well with our players.
Leason shows each game that he has surprising speed and some hands and shot, and when you add his size and reach it poses as a problem for defenses, plus he defensively reliable and a rare righty on the team. However, the dude has ZERO intensity and physicality. I was hoping he would be like a Ruchin and have SOME occasional bite, but he is the player that I wouldn't want as a teammate in a line brawl or any physical confrontation.
Lundy is crafty and one of our best skaters. He's really pushing for that shut down role and you can tell he wants to be our faceoff ace. However, he's just too small and isn't physical enough for the role, and he hasn't been able to get his past offensive production.
If Verbeek isn't using his cap space to be that 3rd party broker for 4rth/mid-round picks, I don't think he's going to be trading these three in their prime for mid round picks even if he doesn't plan on resigning any of them. He is likely scouring for a better return and I'm not sure there is huge demand. They would likely be more in a packaged deal. I'm curious what opportunities Verbeek is looking at...

Question to me is: If Verbeek believes last night's loss was the end of the truly meaningful games, does he prioritize getting the Gulls the most legitimate playoff shot possible (which is arguably good for all the prospects, but prioritizing the Gulls isn't usually the Verbeek way) or does he prioritize trying to bring up more kids to see a little NHL time? If it's the former you have to send Colangelo back down as soon as practical, no? Whereas if it's the latter you need roster spots.
That might be the biggest factor in whether Leason or Lundestrom gets moved, and potentially a factor for Fabbri (though the injury is presumably a bigger one).

If Verbeek thinks last night’s loss was the end of meaningful games when they ended the night the same amount of points back from the playoffs as they began it, then hes incompetent.
Last night’s loss sucked but there’s still a clear path with some of the upcoming games, starting Friday against St. Louis

Maybe I'm also incompetent, but their path to playoffs was pretty much shut off last night.
Not only was it a game against a fellow contender for the final playoff spot, but they're running out of racetrack. They're arguably farther out of the playoffs because they now have less opportunity to make up the ground. It's not just that they're still 6 points out - they would have to leapfrog four other teams.
For me, it's as much about the feeling behind these last three games. The one win they had (which was a fantastic game) came arguably against the one team they didn't need to beat. They laid an egg with a poor effort in a game they needed to win against Chicago. And while they gave a solid effort in Vancouver last night, they just didn't have enough gas in the tank.
These next few games are still "meaningful" in that they're not totally eliminated from contention. But barring a miracle, it's about over.

Depends on whether he defines meaningful as "are we mathematically eliminated yet?" or "do we have a realistic shot?" I would think. There's a breakpoint somewhere where the answer to the first question is yes but the answer to the second question is no, because sure it's the same number of points, but the number of games to make them up continues to decrease.
As a fan I'm happy to stay aboard the playoff hopium train as long as it'll run, but that's not really how I want the GM making deadline decisions. (Though these particular decisions are pretty low-stakes, so sure why not.)

I'm kinda starting to think he's one of our Canadian scouts and as an extra assignment he is required to keep an eye on what the HF natives are whining about during the season and report back to the little ball of hate.
Maybe he should just announce what team he prefers... or at least tell the Hurricanes...
