I get the importance of the gambling and PED suspensions, but it took guys like Cooke to nearly kill careers multiple times to even come close.

The repeat offender tag has almost no real teeth by comparison.

Not worthy of a long discussion, but it's pretty infuriating.
With PED it is a lot more black and white. You use them or you don't so no choice on the suspension length. With hits there are a lot of shades of grey that comes into deciding how long a suspension will be including if the guy handing out the suspension likes your team/player or not. It is very frustrating.

Specifically the weight of being a repeat offender or lack of it is what bothers me. Guys make mistakes and go over the line on occasion, but the ones who consistently show a lack of control are allowed to stick around too long.

I still think there is a chance in the end Lindgren is going to possibly be more valuable than Manson. 3rd in ice time last night, and was 4th by like 20 seconds against Toronto.

You guys are judging him as a 3rd pairing LHD, and based on recent reports, not on what he's done here.

He's out playing Girard thus far..

So what you're saying trade out G, and re-sign Lindgren and run a vet 3LD with Malinski

:sarcasm:

Lindgren is younger than Manson, and may potentially come at a cheaper caphit next season, so I see the appeal. Handedness is a big deal though and he's never going to be an ideal fit on the right side (neither is Girard), and as long as Girard is on the 2nd pairing making $5m Lindgren is capped out as a 3LHD on this team.

I'm not sure it's wise to spend significant cap on the 3LHD position considering that that's one of the easiest positions to fill at the TDL each year. But if there's capspace remaining after signing Nelson and Drouin then it would be silly to not try to bring him back (based on the small sample size thus far).

No wonder, figured it was gambling or that with the length.

You can end careers and get 5 to 10 games, but color outside the lines with those and it's 25 games.

Remember Shane Pinto got 41 games for having his friends in the US bet on what seems like non NHL related games? Not even sure if it was during the season, since he got suspended in October.

Even though the NHL's gambling policy only relates to NHL games. This is the only mention of gambling in the CBA. “Gambling on any NHL game is prohibited.”

I'm fine with them handing out harsh punishments for gambling, but can we get suspensions that are at least 1/2 has long for for some of the dirty plays that almost ruin guys careers and give them life long CTE?

This!!! And why aren't the players demanding this from their union? Why would they protect the very people shortening careers and causing pro-longed life long lingering effects to its member body?

This alone is why unions make absolutely no sense to me. They have a very large double standard. The union is there to protect the players, also... the union actually protects the dude the the players need protection from far more though.

Technically, I'm wondering if failing to protect its members from repeat offenders within its own ranks constitute creating a hostile work environment?

Because the players believe in frontier justice.

I’ve never understood that to be honest. I guess they’re just too scared of even slightly damaging their solidarity to point out some bad apples. But honestly, they need to have that conversation. I remember the day the league handed down that one last suspension to Raffi Torres, and it was clear the league was saying “Retire. NOW.” Even the Sharks, who had passionately defended him before, basically told him in a very public way to GTFO.

Right now the only true headhunter I can think of is Rempe.

A player hurting another player isn't the same as a player hurting the league. PED's and gambling hurt the league's reputation hence the severe punishment.

PEDs translate to greater body mass, speed, and aggression. It’s a ridiculous point to make that PEDs don’t lead to injuries.

I get why the punishments aren’t as severe, because the respective crimes are not nearly as clear-cut. However, it would be nice for one of these headhunters to get a suspension that even approaches the big hammer they swing at a PED or gambling doofus.

The object of suspensions is to deter any further behavior of that sort. They clearly use those properly with gamblers and roiders, but until they start slapping repeat offenders with 10-15 games or more the same shit’s gonna keep happening.
