I didn't mean to suggest that signing Lindgren should be a priority over Nelson. I said "IF" Nelson walks (after making every attempt to re-sign him) THEN you can consider if there's any space for Lindgren.

Re-signing Lindgren is obviously a much lower priority than Nelson, and Drouin.

I still think there is a chance in the end Lindgren is going to possibly be more valuable than Manson. 3rd in ice time last night, and was 4th by like 20 seconds against Toronto.

You guys are judging him as a 3rd pairing LHD, and based on recent reports, not on what he's done here.

He's out playing Girard thus far..

So what you're saying trade out G, and re-sign Lindgren and run a vet 3LD with Malinski

:sarcasm:

In my very basic opinion, he is being put in a position to outplay Girard.
Bednar seems to trust Girard to play with whoever and I don't get that vibe yet in regards to Lindgren.

That's fair too

No, but our top four is currently being deployed like this..

Toews - Makar
Lindgren -
Girard -

Manson has played more minutes than Girard in the past two games since he was paired with Lindgren. That pairing also plays PK behind Toews-Makar.

Girard is very much being used as a 5th defenseman right now.

vs. Chicago:

Lindgren - 19:43
Manson - 19:38
Girard - 17:52

Nope, depends on the night and PP/PK situation. Toronto was..

Girard 18:17
Lindgren 17:52
Manson 16:57
Malinski 14:44

The best thing though is with the bottom four getting that much ice Toews and Makar were in the 22 & 23 minutes range both nights.

Edit..

My point really is, thus far Lindgren has put himself in the conversation as to who our #3 really is. Against SJ Lindgren lead the D in ice time with 21:37.

We were beating San Jose and 4giev by a huge margin, so of course this skews defender usage as bottom six forwards and lower pair D got a ton of ice time

My take is that Bednar is trying Lindgren in different situations and different partners to evaluate what we have there and what will work best

NYR fans told us that Ryan Lindgren was almost a bottom Dpair. He's no Scott Stevens, but i'm very impressed by his play with the Avs so far. I think in NY , they played Lindgren first Dpair next the the great Adam Fox, that's probably why he didnt shine , there's nothing you can do next to God himself.

Yeah, but I think he's earning the ice Bednar is giving him. That's the important part.

It seems he was misscast as a high end shut down D possibly as well. He has better offensive instincts than that, but isn't able to effectively play top pair and shut down top lines.

It's early, but so far Cmac and Bednar were right about how he'd look here with proper usage. Right now that's not as 3rd pair DFD either.

Personally I like this structure for the defense. You prioritize 4 or 5 guys for the entire unit, not 3 or 4 and fill in around them. We can do that with a more balanced salary structure now.

Top to bottom and even without Landeskog this is the most fun this team has been to watch since 2022.

I know you were stationed at the base in Germany. Girard is a Klainer Mensch and Lindgren is like a few feet taller. I liked his hits, going into corners and playing into dirty areas where some players stay away from. Maybe this is exactly what we need...especially for playoffs.

Had to look up kleiner Mensch. So G is a German dwarf and Lindgren is a German troll then?

Whats up with Theordore's injury?

Yeah, I've never understood the double standard.

I get the importance of the gambling and PED suspensions, but it took guys like Cooke to nearly kill careers multiple times to even come close.

The repeat offender tag has almost no real teeth by comparison.

Not worthy of a long discussion, but it's pretty infuriating.
