FTR I would never have paid him 13-14 million, so Avs were smart to get rid of him. Even with that said, it clearly shows no loyalty from us as the Front Office never saw him better than MacKinnon's cap. He probably thinks he is better than it.

FTR Mikko said he didn't need more than MacKinnon at $12.6M to stay in Colorado.

I understand why they thought that was still too much to build a team around though with their lack of depth and Cale's pending raise.

I agree. I was just referring to the $13-14M number you mentioned and thinking he's better than MacKinnon's cap.

Yeah, I deleted my response. I read your post way too fast, totally misread what you were saying. My bad.

If that's the case, then his side screwed up if they were playing the long game, because Avs showed they didn't.

Never been, actually never been to anything outside of Japan when it comes to Asia. I have multiple buddies and friends who live in Saitama, so it makes trips a lot easier than going to other places...even though I hear SE Asia is a majestic place. Super cheap and lady boys for everyone!

I don't know what Mikko's agent's last offer was, but in general I think it made sense to expect a long game given the the Avs took it to the wire with Landy. And they went into camp without a deal with Mikko last time.

Though Aho I believe said he texted Mikko a few days prior to ask if he could be traded, and I think he said it was a possibility.

If true, then that's the point his agent should have just made the $12.6M offer. Who knows if he did.

My guess all along though is the Avs are never really that serious about signing him for more a number that didn't start with 10, and they didn't think Mikko would take that given the market, so there was a lot of gamesmanship on both sides.

Coyle takes his spot on 3rd line and also takes over PK duties (Marchand could as well) and Coyle's contract is almost the same price tag but only for next year. Likely Marchand is a rental.

Lol, I saw some pretty ugly shit in Thailand and Vietnam. Not so much the lady boys, but the kids.

But they are still stunning and friendly places.
 
Really no positive way to spin this for Colorado. Carolina's going to wind up getting better value than we did and in what will be our final dance and one last shot Dallas likely ends up getting better. You know Rantanen is going to be giving it his all at this point as well.

Dallas doing something stupid like Johnston++ and than giving Mikko 14m a year would be a win. Would suck to see Carolina get a young cost controlled C like Johnston but at this point doesn't really matter and Dallas paying a ridiculous price would at least soften the blow.
