Right. Thats like saying Toronto could trade Marner and a 2nd to Vancouver and Vancouver could retain 50% and trade him back to Toronto. That would clearly be stopped by the league, even if there isn't something specific in the CBA against it.
I believe there is something in the CBA about that, I want to say that the 32 Thoughts guys directly addressed it in one of their Thoughtline segments.

It’s actually not completely 100% the same.
The AVS didn’t trade Rantanen to Carolina, they traded him to Chicago. Chicago then retained and traded him to Carolina.
I wonder if that creates some kind of loophole.

Either way, this won’t happen. Carolina wouldn’t trade him back. Would make them look even dumber than just trading him somewhere else.

Fascinated that NJ is still buying after the Hughes announcement.
There is always one idiot GM still buying after getting news that his #1C is out for the season. (both reg + playoffs)

Even if he get Dumoulin + Nelson - they aren't going to become a better team than if they had Jack Hughes.

It would be like us losing MacKinnon but thinking yeah, Brock Nelson will make a difference.

The guy is an idiot for trading for Dumoulin.

Ever since he has been away from the Avs and MacKinnon, he has looked brutal. Pretty much confirming all of Ismo's thoughts about lack of off season training.
I haven't watched him play, but if you are to believe the Canes posters on HfBoards he has basically been their best player since the trade.

Does that tell something about Mikko, or about that team?

Here's the full picture of a potential Mitts for Kadri trade:

- We could have signed Kadri for a lower AAV than CGY did
- We lost the best years of that contract and buying the bad ones (he's 34, he's going to decline real soon)
- We traded Byram for Mitts

This isn't "right the wrong". This is atrocious management.

I don't know how CMac could live with that quite honestly.

You also forgot the 1st we used to punt Ryjo to the moon.

The buffoon closed the window immediately after the cup win and he’s still trying to play catch up. But at least he’s aggressively incompetent.

On Seravalli's show, they are claiming that the Avs could infact trade back for Rants. I still doubt that is true. Makes no sense.

They can't. That's stupid of them to even say so.

Rantanen to Florida makes a lot of sense. Then they can use the Bennett money to resign him too.

Rantanen is now a gun for hire mercenary like Hossa was.

Maybe he'll choose the comfiest destination for him like Duchene did, and then gets dealt to who knows where lol
