Waking up to read the new rumors.

I don't think I would give up Ritchie for Nelson. But the 2026 1st should definitely be in play.

Would be savvy if Cmac brought in Nelson and shipped out Mitts for a bounty of futures. Effectively making a swap that on paper should theoretically improve our roster while keeping valuable assets for the upcoming years.

That's where I'm at. In general, I don't think Mittelstadt profiles as a 3C. Yesterday I said include Mittelstadt in a Nelson deal, which wasn't very popular (which I get).

As you suggested, if the Avalanche really rolled the dice on Nelson, the aftertaste might not be as bad if they brought in some type of a future asset (i.e. pick, prospect, reclamation player) for Mittelstadt in a separate deal.

This would make sense. Maximize the value on Mitts (who we know doesn't fit us) and get the best potential replacement for now. Summer more players are available as usual. Fix the second line center then.

Would really love if we could make a Mitts+2026 first+2025 second+Ritchie for Horvat.

Horvat is an unbelievable skater by all metrics, is great at face offs, fits the core age of our team and on a second line would likely thrive.
That would be way too much to give up

Maybe, but it’s not gonna be cheap to get him. I would rather slightly overpay for a good player than take another risk on a maybe.

If it can get done without the 2025 second great, but I think he’s the type of player we need.

Here you go:

Brock Nelson is NOT slow. One of the best rush players at high speeds in the NHL.

35 goals per season the last 3 years.

He would be a massive upgrade on our 2nd line.

Ridiculous take.

My bad didn't realize we were considering 4th period garbage as legit. Pagnotta is rarely correct and he's only slightly better than a certain E named blogger who shall not be named.

The only reason Nelson even floats around the Avs with these "experts" is because everyone and their brother f***ing knows we need an upgrade at 2C. It's like going after the low hanging fruit and associating one of the better options with it.

Would he be an upgrade over Mitts, absolutely, but any cut rate 3rd line center would be a massive improvement.

Still not convinced that an aging vet who currently plays in a slow defensive system and looked so so for an up tempo 4 nations USA team is a good fit for a team that is looking push offense and pace.

Pagnotta is a legit source and NHL Network contributor. The Fourth Period used to stink... like 15 years ago. Probably around the same time Eklund had a shred of relevance. Don't worry, you can say his name. Only dinosaurs like me even know who you're talking about.

Pagnotta is legit but I can’t recall a time where he was above the rest when it comes to Avs rumors. Lebrun, Friedman, and Servalli tend to be the best for the Avs. Unironically, it would not shock me if Guerilla Sports/Jesse/Meghan broke something this year. They’ve partnered with the Colorado Eagles it seems on pregame stuff and Jesse broke the Altitutde/Comcast agreement.

At this point, it’ll be fascinating to see how the TDL plays out. We’ve all galaxy brained how to address the 2C issue ad nauseum. I don’t think there can be any true surprises. There is a logical rationale to all the proposals. So it’ll be interesting to see how CMac chooses to address the problem in terms of what factors he gives priority to. Cost, age, ability, contention window, asset management and fit. I’m kinda done with experiments (Jost, Newhook). Just because someone’s a name 2C doesn’t mean they’ll automatically work (RyJo). I wasn’t that impressed with Kadri until his last season. Then we got spoiled. If you are truly all in then you try for someone like Horvat who checks the boxes with the exception of cost and asset management. And that’s coming from someone that thinks this team needs another 2/3 RD. But then the top 6 is permanently fixed either way maybe with the exception of later having to replace Nuke. Easier to fix the bottom 6? I think so but it’s just as vital to have four lines that you can effectively roll.
