Nice to see Perreault continue to be a big game player when it matters. Last last year he played his best when the knockout games started. Now 5 points in the last 2 games and is in a tie for for 1st in points in the tournament.
Yeah he's been great lately after a frustrating start.

Kid's a big game player. We'll need him to be great again tonight.

My last complaint and I know I’m beating a dead horse. I can’t figure out why Carle won’t take Burnevik off pp1. He was able to limit Eiserman to 8 minutes a game… tough move, dangerous to team chemistry, etc…but he did it. Why can’t he do the same with Burnevik. I just don’t get it. Kamil Bednarik could be there before puck drop.

Carle has to see his role in PP very differently. I don't understand it but I guess there has to be something behind his thinking. End of the day we have a best PP in the tournament. It could be better but...

Guessing they see something they really like internally.

One win away from back to back Golds makes it a lot harder for me to question it, but from outside appearances, that might be the biggest “hole” on the roster right now.

I would say that the bumper position that is so prevalent in modern PPs is more of an art that most of these kids probably don’t have much exposure to (higher level, impact players, who have dominated the puck nearly every step of the way in their development). You don’t really want someone there that is going to roam and impact spacing and passing lanes. But obviously want someone who is going to be an option, take eyes away, and capitalize if your opportunity comes.

I do agree that the kid looks out of place.

97s won a treble (U17, U18, U20), 01s and 04s allowed the opposition goalie to rob the U18 gold, but took the double (U17 & U20). 05s missed the U17 tournament, but can take two U20 golds in addition to the U18 gold. A win today, and the achievements of the 05s will rise above everyone else. Of course, they were able to participate with the 04s and 06s, who are both excellent age groups.

@William H Bonney is probably correct in the post below.

The question then becomes "why does Carle continue to defer to his assistant to the detriment of the team's first PP unit?"

I was surprised when Bednarik didn’t get invited. Think he be on the squad next year for sure.

If I had to guess it’s his size

The thinking is the PP coach is his college coach and he benefits big if things work out good for Burnevik on that PP and the team.

It is what it is. What can we do?

He missed the summer camp because something came up, and that was probably the end of his chance to make the team. It’s stupid, but it’s very hard to make the team if you’re not there. And they don’t care if there’s some legit reason why. You miss that camp, and your chances are very low to make it.

I find it ridiculous that he didn’t make it when he’s completely outplayed Svoboda this year at BU for the same position, but then again Svoboda was at that summer camp. He’s actually been solid here, so I’ve shut up a little about why he shouldn’t have made it.

I think like half the forwards I’d have argued he should’ve made it over this year, but anyway that’s now in the past. I’d have to think he’ll be a top 3 lines center next year. Center (along with goaltender) is going to be our weakest spot.

The defense has been very narrow at times and I would have personally chosen Fiddler and L.Fischer for the team. If they win today, who cares, but hopefully these guys will get a chance next year.
Imagine losing Fiddler to Canada because of Adam Kleber or Colin Ralph. Yikes.

The thinking is the PP coach is his college coach and he benefits big if things work out good for Burnevik on that PP and the team.

It is what it is. What can we do?

I think you are right that this is the reason. It is very hard to see how Larson thinks he will benefit from this in any way tho.

Maybe I have the wrong play, but was the play they're mad about the penalty at the end of the game?

Because if so, that's like as clear-cut a penalty as it gets. Booing him for that is really childish on the part of the fans.
Seems to me the Canadian fans are mad at Sikora because he got open ice kneed by a Canadian but wasn’t injured. Booed him all game for that.

Burnevik's job on the PP is more than a bumper - it is to get to the crease, create net-front space for the skilled US forwards to get to rebounds and to screen the goalie. There are plenty of more skilled USA guys out there to do the rest. He's also a Saint Cloud player and his college coach, Brett Larson, runs the USA PP.

Not saying it has been or will be an easy road, but imagine telling someone 5 years ago the US could win a gold at the WJC without facing Canada, Russia, or Sweden in the knockout round.

I would take the better, more experienced goalie in a gold medal game. There isn't a position where I'd take the Finnish group over the Americans.
Well technically, that's Rimpinen. This is his 2nd pro year and he's been better in this tournament. And only reason why Finland is here, USA would have reach final with any goalie they have. Augustine is better prospect, no doubt about that.
