Not to pay myself on the back too hard, but dammit I'm wrong enough, so I'm going to do it on the random occasion when I'm right. I've been calling for Carle to lead our WJC team for *years* and he's exceeded every expectation that even I had in these 2 tournaments. USAH is so often out coached, it's nice to have the best coach on our side for a change.

My next coaching pick I'll keep making until he gets a shot a la Carle is Ben Barr.

The US should win. They're better at every position. Doesn't mean they will of course, as the Finns are always a pain in the ass, but I hope they come out like alphas tomorrow. They didn't show up for the first matchup.
One of the hardest things to do in this tournament is beating a team twice. At least it has when it comes to the US. Welp, Finland beat us once...not gonna happen again. I like our odds and a not hostile barn as well...

Good win. Czechs don't make it easy at all. That was very close. Augustine was the difference in that game, and maybe also a little that we probably just had better scoring talent.

Our defensemen were once again really tough to watch. Shoutout to Fortescue who was great in this game. Buium was good too. Hutson has slowed down as the tournament went on, but can at least move pucks. Ralph and Kleber are true train wrecks. You know something bad is going to happen with them out there. Can't believe they were actually picked for this team. Calling it now. We have to hope Kleber isn't picked next year. We have 4 better RHD easy. Minnetian has been a little better as the tournament went on. Today was his best game. Hensler is usually okay, but is young and has some tough moments. Why isn't Fischer playing above Ralph or Kleber?

Because of how bad the defense is, we barely got any opportunities in the offensive zone. Hard to really put much on the forwards due to that. They just aren't getting enough puck touches. Thought Terrance and Svoboda were good in this game on the PK. Would much rather Eiserman be taking a regular shift over Burnevik, who might be in the running for worst player on the team right now.

One more to go. Finland is always pesky. They showed it the last time we played them. They've beat us a lot of key games over the years when they probably shouldn't have. Talent-wise, I think we have the better team, but I've seen enough tough losses to the Finns to know it'll be a toss-up.

It is fun to have dynamic dmen who can skate and handle the puck all day long. I hope the USA can consistently produce that type of player.
Our defense next year should be the best part of the team. I'm worried about goaltending. And forwards definitely don't look as good as this year.

Actually, forwards will be okay if Hagens returns, but probably won't happen.

Maybe I have the wrong play, but was the play they're mad about the penalty at the end of the game?

Because if so, that's like as clear-cut a penalty as it gets. Booing him for that is really childish on the part of the fans.

Their anger started with the Beaudoin knee on Sikora. They claimed he sold it, largely because he looked up after first hitting the ice. Everything after that just added to their ire.

He's the only forward on the team without a point (Every other F has at least 2) and he's been on the first PP unit the whole tournament.

That's astounding.
I swear there were a couple of times today where they just ignored Burnevik when he was in a rare good position on the PP. It's like they're running a PP at even strength, and still generating quality chances.

With Augustine's track record, I shouldn't doubt him, but I don't trust him at all this year. He has let in one easy goal in every match and that is exactly what a team like Finland needs against us in the final.

Against Canada the goal he gave up was not an easy one, to be fair.

This is already the first time in USA U20 history that they've made it to the Finals in back to back World Juniors. Now hopefully they can go out and win it. Would be a pretty special accomplishment in particular for the players that were on both teams - Augustine, Buium, Fortescue, Leonard, Moore, Nelson, Perreault... and also sort of Minnetian, Terrance and Hillebrandt (on the team but didn't play in any games).

The play they’re angry about is the Beaudoin hit (earlier in the game). He looked at the ref….then grabbed his leg….beaudoin got 5 and the game….it was a penalty but he sold the major.

If USA and Czechia both win today, there will be a group w USA, Canada, and Sweden together next year. I’m sure it’s happened, but I dont remember that happening before.

I hate writing this cuz I’m afraid I’m jinxing it….but I feel like we’re gonna steamroll today. 5-1, 6-0….something like that. Feels like it’s been building to this.

As you should. But Rimpinen is the best goalie in this tournament, by far.
That will be decided in the Gold medal game.

Never before have we won back to back golds. This team can most certainly do it...still haven't seen us play our best game yet either.
Correct the US has not played there best game.
