"Who's to say all the good players they left off would have performed when the high end guys they did bring didn't perform to expectations"

Had me chuckling. If you bring 5 good players and 15 grinders and the 5 good players struggle good luck scoring. If you bring your 20 best players and 5 of them struggle you've got 15 other high scoring talents that probably won't. There's a really good chance some of the 20 guys don't lag an egg. You figure out who those guys are and then rely on them. But we're supposed to see the 5 guys the stupid coaching staff thought were his go to guys struggle and instead of criticizing them for picking a top 6/bottom 6 style roster or even picking the wrong guys to rely on if you were to go that route what we're actually supposed to take away from it is Cowan, Ritchie and others struggled so that means everyone good Canada has would have struggled and so the coaching staff did nothing wrong
It's such a dumb argument to make. Your best players don't perform well enough? Don't bring the best available players, bring worse players I guess. Can't score? Well I guess bring in worse offensive players. The best way to win tournaments is to have by far the best roster, not to handicap the team as if there were a salary cap. It's a lot harder to defend against four lines that are a threat to score than it is to defend against one or two.

He seems to be right though. There are 3-4 teams.. He neglected to say that his wasn't one of them. I used to think Dave was a cerebral guy but what he comes off as now is an angry, arrogant old man thinking he's doing us all a favor by coaching.

I think he’s proud for showing the world how competitive teams like Latvia and Czechia are.

Ive been awake 41 hours and travelled 5000KM but after watching that I’ll just do the post-mortem tonight.

At the end of the day, it didn’t take a genius to figure out this was going to happen. When you leave so many players that are able to score at home, well, you will struggle to score.

Jack Slater and the Lethbridge poster sorry I’m forgetting your name have pointed out that Salmond is involved in a curious family relationship with the Hurricanes. Scott Salmond should be fired for failing to fire Anholt after last year. That’s simply inexcusable and is not meritocracy.

The kids, they could have been more disciplined. But this tournament was lost in a boardroom, not on the ice. Canada had the most talent available to them, but eschewed that in favour of some flawed dinosaur philosophy.

Hopefully next year winners are put in place, the player group will be even deeper than this year

Cowan took one(very bad) penalty the entire tournament. That does not count as a ton of time in the box.
I should have said Cowan spent a ton of time in the box against the U.S. - he was in the box for 4 minutes. When you are playing a team as deadly on the PP as the U.S., that seems like a "ton" if time to me.

My point is : The "skill" guys took more than their share of penalties.

Canada was short handed once from his penalties the entire tournament. Yes he did also have an offsetting minor.....that resulted in 5 on 5 play lol. Cowan didn't have a good tournament....pick things he actually did wrong to critisize him for maybe?

Okay... His penalty in the 3rd shot us in the foot and killed any chance we had of coming back. Then he gave away the puck in our zone when we had an empty net and that led to the 4th goal.

Better?
