I don't think the team is a write off yet but changes are in order and the result should not distract from the clear flaws in the Hockey Canada process. Most people in this thread are correct, though I am sure that there is mindless cheerleading and hand wringing about people rightly complaining from a poster of two who were rightly ignored years ago. It is unfortunate when fans are more reliable than the people put in charge to make these teams, but that is the case for Canada at the junior level most times.
Oh please...

All these Monday morning quarterbacks.

If you're so smart, go get a job at Hockey Canada - or in the NHL or in another country. Convince them you know better.

My guess : You're as close in the hockey competence department to a hockey executive as you are in the looks department to the young Paul Newman in your avatar. In other words, it's all in your imagination. But keep looking in the mirror and seeing this...

My God, Paul Newman was a handsome man. LOL! :)

All these Monday morning quarterbacks.

Everyone here could lose to Latvia. We now have that in common with the geniuses behind the bench of Team Canada and in Hockey Canada's front office.

Are you in the front office? Why are you taking this so personally? You suck at your job. Deal with it.

When a vast majority found the many of the decisions strange before the tournament, and then you lose to Latvia it’s not called Monday morning quarterbacking - it’s called foresight.

Canadian hockey has a certain arrogance to it, and I’m totally down with that - however it comes with being questioned, and expectations to perform.
Hope they turn it around, we’ll see what these guys are made of soon enough.

You can be a fan of Canada and recognize that Hockey Canada hasn't constructed a optimal roster. It isn't 'unpatriotic' to point that out.

And sports management is far from a meritocracy. Nepotism runs rampant, cronyism runs rampant, and talented analytical people in society don't typically end up in sports management as a primary career. Let's not put these people on a pedestal.

I'm not the one saying I know better than the people at Hockey Canada. I'm the one saying stand by the kids.

But it's the same every tournament. All these Monday morning quarterbacks know better. Well, if you do, send your resume to Hockey Canada or USA Hockey or somewhere else.

Prove to the world how smart you are.

There are few people blaming individual players. I'm one of Oliver Bonk's biggest fans and I think he'll be a great NHL player. The fault lies at Dave Cameron's feet for deploying him as a PPQB when he's a defensive defenceman.

The fault lies at Team Canada management for not having more offensive talent at the blueline to run the powerplay.

You can see the difference, right?

It's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback.

If the team wins, you cheer, if the team loses, you tell the world you knew better - if the people in charge just listened to you.

Give me a break.

The coach you keep defending has:

1. Put Bonk on the PP over Dickinson. He’s looked terrible there. He’s assuming he knows more than the Hunters who are vastly more successful hockey ops people.
2. He’s gifting his nepo baby Pinelli top six minutes which is obviously a brutal move.
3. He left home 4 top ten picks for guys who have done nothing, so he obviously is smarter than NHL executives despite his time in the NHL being an unmitigated disaster.

But sure, we are all just a bunch of casual fans who know nothing about hockey.

Then throw in your resume to coach the team or run Hockey Canada - one of the best hockey organizations in the world. See how far you get.

Again, a bunch of Monday Morning Quarterbacks,.

Have mistakes been made? Of course, but this team beat Czechia, Sweden and Finland. They lose one game and everyone else is an expert.

Again - anyone here could lose to Latvia. Losing to Latvia is not some massive achievement.

Literally anyone in the country could do what Dave Cameron and Hockey Canada managed yesterday. Here's an artistic representation of them and you:

LOL!

Yes, Hockey Canada, the organization that tried to sweep gangbangs under the rug.

No one should ever question their decision making ever because they are infallible in every single way.

Hockey Canada is far from the best run hockey organization. They have been complicit in the covering up of sexual assaults which resulted in them hemorrhaging advertising revenue for years. Enrollment in hockey in Canada is dwindling.

Not exactly hallmarks of a top organization.

They could but they just rostered Mynio along with Parekh liking the Canada lose on insta Hockey Canada probably isn't about to parachute him in to save the day.
Gotcha. Last night just feels like the kind of game where Parekh would have had 4 assists and people would go “yeah but it’s Latvia”

But it’s like yeah there you go, that’s why a player like that is usually brought.

I know you are being facetious but this is a terrible argument because Hockey Canada doesn’t evaluate management (or players) based on resumes. It’s an OBC that’s been getting worse every year and now we’re seeing the fruits of it.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but you keep saying this like Team Canada puts these sorts of jobs on indeed.com and goes through resumes and conducts interviews.

There's no chance to get a job with them no matter how knowledgeable and smart you might be. It's like saying that you should go direct a Marvel movie before you criticize them. Silly stuff.

Anyway, for @JackSlater and all the rest of you "experts", here is the link for careers at hockey Canada....

If they won't hire you, here is the link for jobs at the NHL...

Please send them your posts prior to yesterday's loss and explain how you would have done a better job.

P.S. When they don't hire you, you can say it's because Hockey Canada is an old boys club and you were passed over because you don't have the proper connections.

Your eternal optimism is impressive, but for a lot of people on this board, the issues with this roster were apparent as soon as the camp roster was announced.

I’m not going to pretend I’m Julien Brisebois and I was a bang average player, but I played to a decent level and have a lot of former teammates and friends that both play in the NHL and work in Major and Provincial junior. I would assume it would make me one of the more insightful posters on these boards (not that it matters, we’re all here because we enjoy the game, regardless if you’ve never even played), and I will defend the criticisms of the fellow posters are making about the roster.

I don’t wish harm on anyone of the single players defending the national colours, but the management group’s flawed philosophy of building this team has put the team at an unnecessary inherent disadvantage. And those disadvantages have been born out through all but the Switzerland game in precomp.

HAHAHAHA I’m currently doing mine as well, and to think as much as I love hockey and my country, I’m not going to give up a lucrative career post academia to go ride a bus to Prince Albert or Témiscamingue
