I thought Canada took the foot off the pedal in the 3rd and George had to be very good. The U.S. will be an interesting contrast as they play a more run and gun style. Could be a high scoring game.
I agree that it will be an interesting contrast, both in terms of how the teams are made and how they seem to want to play. I would lean toward a high scoring game considering how junior hockey is. 7+ goals. Cameron will be shooting for a 2-1 win though.

NOTE TO SELF :

Do NOT get involved in the ugliness that is HF. Stick to hockey.
I don't know what has happened over the last 5 years but the place actually doesn't have near the ugliness it used to have in the international tournaments, not even close.

A lot of the ones who historically made the place go haywire seem to have moved on.

That is true. TBH, there is also a LOT less posters, period. In the old days, there were FAR more.

I just want to stay out of it and stick to hockey. It sure is easy to get caught up in it all - thus the reminder. ;)

Maybe your ignore list is growing or you're ending up on more ignore lists... I'm leaning towards the former.

It’s unfortunate that Bonk will get the Ryan Murphy/Joe Hicketts treatment from us Canadian fans for being a poor QB on our PP, when in reality the blame rests solely on Cameron for not putting his player in a position to succeed.

Bonk is a good player who can help Canada win, but anyone who watches OHL hockey can tell you he’s not a capable PP QB and actually plays the bumper on the London PP.
Dickinson, Schaefer and Molendyk are all better options there for Canada.

The difference is Canada has the ability to win a game like that. I don't think the U.S. does.

The PP was atrocious, so hopefully they take a good hard look at its setup.
It's been bad from the get-go, and I'll tell you something that hasn't helped-
Canada got zero powerplays in one of the USports games, and there was also a pre-tourney game where we got almost none. We have just not had very many reps on it. The refs think they are doing the team a service by not calling penalties in the run up to the tournament, but it actually hurts the team.

Of course they do. The US is winning hockey tournaments at the junior level as much as anyone... if not more. It's only a matter of time before they win a best-on-best, and that could well be at the 4 nations.

For our younger people on here that may not know this, when TSN first started broadcasting the WJC 35 years ago (my first year of watching as well), the US was a mid-tier team. Somewhere in the range of a Czechia or Slovakia. Just look how far they've come. To quote Michael Scott "How the turn tables.........."

That's if Canada can dictate the terms though. Big if. Realistically USA has the best line, the best defenceman, and a good goaltender for this level. That can be hard to keep to just one goal at this level. I am encouraged by most of Canada's game yesterday where Canada dictated completely for the first 45 minutes or so, but the trick will be avoiding a ten minute black hole again.

Structurally I like what I saw. Except the obvious power play flaw.

Masters says that Ivankovic is the goaltender tonight.

It would have made sense to bring one of them in any year, but with this new 25 man roster that basically gives you an insurance policy to bring an extra player that can help you with a very specific need, it makes even more sense. If their powerplay was humming anyway they could leave those guys as a healthy scratch but we’re one game into this thing (plus the exhibitions) and we’re already running low on ideas to get that PP going. THIS is why you bring a PP specialist.
Yakemchuk was just realllly bad at the WJSS and was arguably the worst skater in the entire event, then combine that with the fact he was one of Canada’s worst players at the U18’s, he leaves a sour taste in the mouth of hockey Canada. Plus he had no business being a top 10 pick. Late first rounder at best imo. Parekh is just a bad human being, that’s his issue lol his character is awful, a genuine spoiled brat that is not good in any dressing room. A modern day bully you may say.

I just got back from a well needed swim. I am going to run some errands, have some Thai food so SPICY it burns a hole in the plate (let alone my stomach) and then, if I survive, I'll watch the Canada Latvia game

God help me but I LOVE this time of year.

There is nothing like it. The World Juniors is as Christmas as eggnog and the Three wise men. The 27th-31st are just a blur and 5 days of not knowing what day of the week it is or the time.
