Speculation: 2025 TDL Discussion

It's a seller's market IMO.

Tampa has shown they're willing to spend big to get the players they want. They gave up a whole draft class for Jeannot.

7 goals in 26 games = 22 goal/season pace with less than 10 minutes/game average time on ice. He still has it.
With what teams give up at deadline, take a chance and go hard in summer for legit winger, there's a couple impact soon to be ufa's. Maybe were lucky and new Gm will in place with fresh philosophy, but I know I am kidding myself and the Bergevin era will be starting. Who knows maybe he has different philosophy, but I doubt

If Spence is being sat; it has to be trade related, right?

Or it’s just more LAK dumb bs
No surprise if they are trying to get Rakell with Spence + 1st as the starting point.

I truly don't believe they want to move Clarke and value him above Spence: even if they trust Spence's defensive game more at the moment.

I hope he's very active. Sell sell sell!
The return they could get for Gavrikov is frustrating, one year after doing nothing with Roy.

Aside from disgruntled fans, has there been any indication of LA shopping Clarke? Wasn't Robitaille on Kypreos not long ago raving about him being the future? I thought I also heard that LA is very tight lipped about possible moves and hard to get a bead on.

Personally, I think it's more the latter.

The Kings did this sh*t last year with Clarke and Spence. They would scratch Clarke one game and then Spence the next and rinse/repeat - They did this for at least 10-15 games last year instead of playing both.

We also know this is a team that HATES taking risks and constantly favors "defensively responsible players" over players who can actually make plays and create offense.

I genuinely think they view it as 'too risky' to have both Clarke AND Spence in the lineup - at least when Doughty is healthy.

Now there is

EDIT: beaten to the punch

He's going to get a big fat extension.

I'm actually okay with this as long as the AAV isn't too high.

Something like 7 years, $6m wouldn't be too terrible. Anything over $6.5m AAV would start to get sketchy.

Gavrikov would be 36 by the time that contract is ending but the cap is supposed to go up a TON over the next 3-4 years.

If he starts to decline or if the Kings fall off a cliff, they could probably trade him with retention pretty easily in a couple years. He's pretty damn good defensively and has shown he can be versatile, playing effective hockey on both sides.

If he wants the term, he has to compromise on the AAV.

if they are trading Clarke, time to call buffalo. They need a RHD, let’s at least get a LHD from them.

And jettison Edmundson to wherever possible

Clarke, Moore (for cap reasons), Edmundson (for cap reasons), and a 1st to Buffalo for Cozens and Byram

Edit: I hate the idea of trading Clarke but getting Byram and Cozens in return would be pretty intriguing and since this organization seems hell bent on being stupid anyways - I see this as a semi-palatable option.

I wouldn't mind if the Kings were doing this if they were legit contenders

Tampa is adding scoring depth to a team that should win its division with a +58 goal differential, a 90 point (currently) Kucherov, with Hagel and Point going nuclear, one of the top goalies in the world with Vasi, and a strong veteran defense anchored by Hedman (I'd expect them to shore this up in the coming days a bit more too). Their window is closing, but still strongly open, you have to go for it.

The Kings are trying to add a middling middle six winger to a core of a 37 year old who is burnt out, a fading #1 dman coming off a catastrophic injury, a journeyman if good but slowing down mid 30s #1 goalie, and a bunch of otherwise relatively spare parts who either can't break thru or never did. The window was never open, it cracked open, then bad moves shut it. ANy move made now comes at the expense of the future but also likely the present because not even Rantanen gets this team over the hump of a dying core.

Edmundson not waiving and Kings would never move him, had proposal awhile back of Clarke,Moore, Pinelli top 10 protected 26 first for Cozens and Byram, but the more I thought about it Byram would be misused here and talk is he has kinda of an attitude.

Oh my god I forgot Edmundson has a 10 team no trade list.....

And you're probably right that the Kings would just ruin Byram (and potentially Cozens too)

I hate it here

It has become depressing to watch a boring style of Hockey, watching legit prospects have their creativity beaten out of them, forcing them not to use their skill sets to the point where it actually affects their career. I hope Clarke is traded to a team that will utilize him and when he succeeds ask the question in the media why did La even draft me

Idk, playing Clarke in the last game before the deadline seems like it would indicate he’s not being moved even if stupid decisions are our team’s m.o.

The ultimate Blake move would be to trade Spence now for some bs 3rd liner rental then trade Clarke too over the summer. Seems like Gav is staying on his right side and he’s about to be signed to a lifetime deal so he probably thinks he can go for it.

Hopefully rumors true Blake is planning calling it a day not matter what at end of year, but then Bergevin most likely to takes over, I cant see Emerson being installed as gm

Not saying the Jeannot trade was good, but I think it'll look a lot less sexy when you input the names. I don't think Nashville is going to turn it into a Herschel Walker type haul. I still laugh that some media members were still counting Cal Foote as a former first rounder with potential rather than him really being a failed to launch first rounder who was essentially a salary dump to open up cap space.

I don't mind their calculated risk with giving up future 1sts to win now. I remember back in 2019, somebody was arguing that the 22nd pick would have star upside because most of the top scorers were 1st rounders, but that poster seemed to ignore that most of those guys were taken in the top 10 (if not top 5).

It can potentially catch up to them down the line but Brisebois probably figures that'll be somebody else's job to clean up that mess. San Jose had a similar mentality during their contending years. They'd be active on the undrafted free agent market to try to make up for their jettisoned picks. Tampa could be an attractive landing spot for prospective NCAA/CHL/European free agents especially with a depleted farm system.
