Speculation: 2025 TDL Discussion

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Deadline week is officially upon us. Here is my completely unprompted lists of players I'd be open to the Kings acquiring (for the right price)...

Bottom 6 forwards to improve depth: Jake Evans, Trent Frederic, Nick Bjugstad, Michael McCarron, Jordan Greenway, Kevin Stenlund

Middle 6 forwards who would help but might be underwhelming: Ryan Donato, Yanni Gourde, Kyle Palmeri, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jason Zucker, JG Pageau (great faceoff guy), Matias Maccelli (would have to be cheap)

Top 6 forwards: Alex Tuch, Brock Boeser, Rickard Rakell, Brock Neslon, Dylan Cozens, JJ Peterka, Jonathan Marchessault, Jared McCann

Totally unrealistic but would be awesome star additions: Jordan Kyrou, Matt Barzal, Filip Forsberg, Travis Konecny

Ideally, we'd acquire a bottom 6 forward to add depth as well as one of the guys in the top 6 forwards category. If Blake can do both without getting completely hosed in the trades, it would be a very solid deadline for LA.

Kings must be sellers, not buyers. Their highest value player is Kempe. He would bring in a good haul of at least 3 young assets, but then you have to fire everyone in player development along with Robitaille and Blake.
I agree with you but realistically the front office is fighting for their jobs.
Assuming this wasn't just lip service here

This is Blake's 8th season as GM with zero playoff wins. Dean won the cup in season 6.

We do know their marching orders were to make the playoffs last season and not add at the deadline. They got the chance to tweak the team in the offseason adding grit and I can only assume that "the man" wants a playoff win.

The trades that they are rumored in are much closer to acquiring a Jeff Carter than acquiring a Jeff Halpern or Freddy Modin

I wish I had faith they can pull any trade that we look at and say Wtf how'd Blake get that done, what a steal. I all honestly till there is change in ownerships view of our front office, vteam will keep spinning their wheels. All.Luc has to keep doing is going to ownership and say look what we've done compared to Buffalo, Ottawa instead ownership looking at what has happened to players like Pld and Gabe when they went to place that utilizes their skill set

I agree. With the type of leadership we have from BLuc, I have zero expectations. I am rooting for them to be fired. None of what should be done will be done until they are gone.

This is their chance to prove us all wrong about how right there we really were the last three seasons in the playoffs!

I'm fully expecting at least one of these guys won't be a King by March 7th.

Turcotte
Spence
Clarke
Greentree
George
Sluk

:kings
Rickard Rakell (Right shot scoring forward, has term, cap going up anyways, consistent 50 point player.)
Noel Acciari (Right shot 4th line center, physical, good faceoff numbers.)

:pens
Alex Turcotte
Akil Thomas
3rd Round Pick

Going to take quite a bit more than that to acquire Rakell sadly. Thomas has virtually no value and Turcotte probably isn't as highly valued to other teams compared to how LA values him. He's also hit a wall recently.

Rakell is cost controlled at a very reasonable $5m cap hit for this season and the next 3 seasons after that and he's having an amazing year. On pace to put up well over 30 goals and 60 points and he would instantly be the Kings leading scorer.

This deal would also put the Kings WAY over the cap.

But I do like the idea of adding Rakell.

Not sure if I'd give up Turcotte right now, Moore would have to be Included for cap reasons and Front office has to be realistic that any move they make like this still most likely won't get them out of the first round and definitely not multiple rounds, unfortunately it's quite clear this front office really is in the dark on how good this team actually is.

Not necessarily.

We have 4.5 Million Dollars in cap space at the deadline, Rakell has a 5M cap hit.

By this summer I'm expecting three of those and two more high picks gone

I don't know about by the deadline because they need to execute but they're already going down the 'devalue the kid thru icetime and mouthing off' thing they did with Vilardi and Kaliyev so I can't see Clarke sticking past free agency and they others they'll toss in a futile attempt to get over the hump by getting a middle sixer that expectedly eats the Kings tax on offense and scores at a 30 pt pace.

Welcome to la, only pressure is to show a profit, everything else is secondary and no change will be done by ownership . Love to have Futa come back and get he and Yannetti back together
Yes to Futa...not sure about Yannetti I have kind of lost faith in his drafting...Kupari,JAD,Thomas,Clarke,Vilardi instead of Necas,Simontaival?Parik,Hrenak, wrong Hughes,Pinelli,Grans? Shafigullin,Villalta? That's a lot of whiffs...still holding out hope that Turcotte turns into a pretty decent player but like Kempe they need to play at Centre their natural position where they are best suited...

And what happened to Kaliyev LA tries to convert him to LWing...dumb dumb

I like Boeser but the liklihood of the Kings getting him is Slim and None and Slim just left the building...go the cheap route...Sprong to rescue the PP or Kuzmenko...both Rightshooting LWingers/RightWingers

Vastly overpaying for an older left shot winger with dubious value is right on brand for Blake, so I expect him to trade both Clarke and Byfield for Rantanen.

But he's 31-32 years old and has 3 more years on contract after this year at 5 M per
True but $5m is going to be nothing in a couple years.

If you add Rakell now you likely get at least another solid year or two from him. At that point, if his game falls off a cliff you can probably trade him pretty easily to a rebuilding team with cap space looking to add some vet presence. Or a playoff team looking to add depth scoring and you retain some salary for a year or two.

Fun fact about Rakell; he'd instantly be #2 on the Kings in hits.

Only behind Tanner Jeannot.
Makes me want to add him even more.

He'd instantly be 2nd on the team in hits AND 1st on the team in goals and points???

AND he's a right shot forward who can play top line / PP1??

AND he probably won't be as expensive as a Tuch or Boeser.... Plus you don't have to worry about re-signing him. Sign me up.

People will say he doesn't move the needle but I kind of disagree. This Kings team is very good and adding another top 6 forward like Rakell would be significant and would also improve the team's general depth.

Give me Rakell and a solid 4th line center with size & some snarl and let's see what these guys can do.
