Rent-annen

Why did they cough up Necas and want to deal Rant already? Not sure how LA can inhale 9.25m prorated even with some retention.. would have to be something like Moore and someone else, plus greentree and picks.. at least it would be splash. But the question is would the sound be absorbed by the black hole.

Edit: I forgot Chi already retaining a lot on this years salary.. so that wont be the big hurdle
Huge pass. Kings have no business trading Greentree or Clarke for Rantanen. This team needs to sell not buy.

If we want Rantanen wait for the offseason. Same factors as the a Kovalchuk signing but for a guy that is a lot younger and can still play. If it’s just money out I would have no problem. Instant offense.

Sorry but the thought of keeping Clarke for the future is much less appealing once you realize that he could be in his D+7 season with diminished value by the time the Kings even start a lengthy rebuild (assuming they will be win-now until 11 and 8 are gone). Not exactly the piece you want to build around at that point.

Let Rob and Luc have their fun, make some dumbass rental trade for Rantanen, and sell the fanbase on how this gets them right there to the ultimate goal of *checks notes* a 1st round playoff series victory. I’d rather see Clarke blossom on another team and the Kings get immediate value now than have them jerk him around for another year.

Agents and media folk stirring up stupid controversy for clicks.
The idea of Rantanen getting traded again seems ridiculous; typical fan/media speculation not to be taken seriously.

However, I'd like to point out that Dundon is not your average owner. His very involved and can be novel. Brash.

Not saying I expect it to happen, but I don't think it's as far fetched as it sounds.

Are we somehow acquiring MacKinnon too?

It's obvious that Rantanen has that Ryan Smyth in him, that he is going to care about every penny (which is fine, that is totally within his rights). But 13% sales tax is probably going to be a tough sell to him. As well as no recent history of success, no top line center and the same division as the best player in the world.

If he hits the market he probably ends up in one of the usual places

The front office failed the team by shorting the organization with a compliment of at least 12 NHL forwards. Inexcusable.

In 21 months:
Forwards jettisoned / left:

8: Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari, PLD, Grundstrom, Lizotte, Arvidsson, Kaliyev. 9, counting JAD waived.

Incoming from outside organization forwards last 21 months:
3: Foegele, Jeannot, Lewis

NET -5

Yes, we have all wanted AHL graduates that can play:
Laferriere, Turcotte. But, Helenius, Lee, Thomas should not have been counted to play a role this season.
Studnicka? Not sure to even count him. Count him and they're still short.

Management failed and kind of handcuffed Hiller into icing 10-11 NHL forwards each night.
God forbid you have any injuries. And, Lewis and Jeannot are honestly not as good as 6 on the departed
list. Kupari was never an earthshaker...but man, would he be great about now, on line 4.

So? The Kings are floundering and staying in 3rd, only because Vancouver is floundering...yet jst beat the Kings. And it seems like the trade target types of: Evans, Armia, Laughton, Donato are the types that
should have been added last offseason...at least 1 that calibre. So, if they can even land a Marchessault
or Rackell, they are still down at least 1 quality bottom 6 NHL player.

I suppose if they can land 2 players - Rackell and Evans, that will go a long way.

I got a disturbing DM on X that seems to indicate that media may be soon softening
fanbase for a Clarke move. Not sure how legit it is. If Clarke is to be dealt, they had sure
better get the kind of return Jiricek got: #1, #2, #3, Daemon Hunt.
I think MTL and BUF may be interested....I say get Tuch and Byram...or Cozens and Byram. Add Moore and Cozens retained rest of year.
And they retain some and only if Tuch extended. Jokiharju was a healthy scratch last game...weird, in that he had 2 goals this past week. I'd prefer Byram, ofc.
MTL? I would want their #1 2025, no protection and Evans...and not their #1 2025 Calgary.
But ask for Demidov and Calgary #1 would be amazing. Maybe Clarke + 3rd for Demidov and Cal #1.
Demidov leading his KHL team in scoring at age 19. Has that ever been done?
I think he could come over in April.

Demidov

Asking for Demidov is delusional.

Didn't Carolina offer him 12.5 and he rejected it?
Worse. Carolina has offered Rantanen a $100m contract and he's not signing it. $13.4m AAV.

Absolutely insane he thinks he's worth more than that. It could be that he just really doesn't like Carolina but still - Have to imagine you'd need to be willing to offer him at least $12.5m - $13.5m in order to sign him given he can test free agency. I'd be VERY hesitant to offer him a contract like that at this point.

Regardless of how badly the Kings need another star forward.

You legitimately think he's worth $13+ million?? On a 7-8 year contract.

In addition to needing to fork over at least a 1st round pick ++ in order to acquire him.

Not trying to be confrontational just a genuine question.

He's an incredible player don't get me wrong but that all just seems insanely risky to me.
McDavid will set the bar when he is up next year. I seem him getting between 16-18m per. Thats why 13m for Rants doesn't bother me. And unlike the Doughty/Kopi era, he's only guy with a high salary long term.

My comment is more geared towards the people trying to generate trade deadline interest, because keeping viewer engagement is part of their business. Agents also talk to the media to help inflate interest for their clients, because they have a financial incentive.

It's certainly possible the Kings have interest - but most of this discussion is pushed by people who have an invested interest in these discussions existing.

You can consider it negotiating through the media, as it were.

Frankly the trade deadline is my least favorite part of the offseason. Worse than the offseason, in my opinion.

somebody needs to tie Blake to his chair, lock his office door and shut down his internet connection, until at least the end of the week, preferably for life
I thought that already happened. Guy has been a ghost since last UFA season

Demidov

Jealous that you were in Thailand, one of my favorite sports on Earth.

Demidov's value exceeds Clarke's right now, and probably by a significant margin. He will very likely step right in to Montreal's lineup, just like Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky and Hutson have (It's possible, Glen Murray!) and give them three years of offensive production on an ELC (It's possible, Rob Blake)

I think sometimes we need to just listen to these guys when they say they intend to test free agency

I mean getting traded AWAY from riding shotgun next to MacKinnon says a lot

I’ts not necessarily ‘f*** carolina’ as much as it is “here is what I want on my next contract and you’re an idiot for trading for me thinking you could get me at a discount”

I am having a good laugh at all the guys the Kings are linked to are suddenly “oh we have multiple offers and if you don’t meet our price we can just keep him”

I’ts almost like the league knows Blake is such an easy mark already

But even more so when the Kings are desperate, running out of race track, almost completely exhausted of blue chip assets worth trading, and pretty much on the last hurrahs of Doughty and Kopitar
