I have very little faith that it will continue. I guess you could say that my level of faith in the goaltending is not high enough to endorse burning young assets.

I mean, I don't have enough faith in the team as a whole and I am not saying Kuemper has been a problem at all: it's just more surprising to me than not when he walks out of a game only allowing one or two goals and that's generally the only way the Kings can win.
For me the goaltending is good enough, it’s not the issue.

The issue is that there is no trade out there that even guarantees getting out of the 1st rd. I’d burn whatever assets are needed if this was a WCF team but it’s not.

You just know Blake watched Brock Nelson in this tournament and is like “I gotta trade Spence and a 1st to get this guy”.

Blake watched the tournament closely. He will be in Tri-State area scouting Brock Nelson and Chris Kreider.

I do wonder what Blake was thinking as he watched that tournament play out, and what could have been.

Drew Doughty will inevitably have an intensity drop off going from the Four Nations tournament back to the regular season.

At least him and Kempe avoided the plague of injuries everyone faced, best case scenario for us. Even though he got plastered multiple times by Chukf***, Drew still looked pretty composed at times, although his age is catching up with him. Panthers and Jets were probably sweating watching their top guys go down.

All in all I think this tournament will end up being SUPER beneficial to Doughty.
  1. He's coming back to the Kings on a big high, having just helped Canada win the 4 nations
  2. While he didn't look amazing throughout the tournament, he seemed to settle in a bit and improve as the games went on - also seemed to do a favorable job from an analytics standpoint even if the eye test had him looking a bit out of place at times
  3. The level of play in 4 Nations and particularly a game like the one last night was INSANELY high - Doughty said after the first game against SWE that it was the fastest game he's ever played in. Now he gets to come back into the NHL where honestly the level of pace/play will be a bit slower - Hopefully that makes things easier for him

So he goes from the high of playing in Four Nations to the low of playing for the Kings.

Why waste 1st, 2nd round picks on Blake? So we can wait 5 years & hope they get value before waiving them? Hit a home run & trade them because they have value, & the King's are competing now & don't have time for them to develop?

King's are 5 points from dropping out of the playoffs with 2 games in hand. If they miss the playoffs, there'll be questions.

What's Blake's best trade so far?
Fiala, Moore, Gavrikov, Kuemper?
Other?
Blake did pretty well with some of his 1st and 2nd round picks: just ask Winnipeg and Minnesota.

I don't ever cheer for the Kings to lose, but I'd gladly take a lottery pick this year and Blake being fired if missing the playoffs guaranteed that to happen.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if missing the playoffs means "there'll be questions".

Think the mission is to spend to the cap & make the playoffs. That's it. Then Luc can sell tickets to people in LA that don't follow hockey.

Blake may be building a "contender". Hard to tell.
😂

May be building a contender? I don't think you got the memo that "we were right there"

Should be spelled con-tender. Declining vets vs rising core, no draft capital and backed right up to the cap ceiling like charly bucket after drinking fizzy lifting drinks. But sure everything is just fine from a 90s LAK perspective.

They are already doing that though. Don't need an acquisition: they can just look at the remaining home schedule and do the math. This is the "we were right there" management team so it should be just as easy to say "really good at home, tons of home games, playoffs secured".

Speaking of, I'm one of the people buying tickets and responding to this post reminds me I haven't put my tickets up for sale yet. I've been to only three games this year: Edmonton/Pittsburgh/Anaheim. .333 winning percentage for me on a team that has lost like, what, five times at home? This f***ing team, man.
