The Kings have a mountain of cap space headed into the offseason.

They've got 22M with Gavrikov being the only significant contract needing to be re-signed.

If you add a player like Rakell/Toffoli, it might hurt LA's flexibility to pursue a big fish.

Boeser seems like the most realistic "big" fish. His stats against us are rediculous. Kinda feels like he's meant to be a King.

Right shot. One of the younger UFA's. Not as expensive as Ratanen/Marner.

I agree on the rationale, but we would have to what we are sending VCR to trade him within the division.
 
Boeser is a really tricky player to evaluate in terms of value IMO.

A lot of fans around the league - especially Canucks fans, seem to think he has 'superstar' value.

Don't get me wrong, he's a really good player and a great sniper - but when you look at his career - he's basically a ~25 goal, ~55 point player - And that's while playing with players like Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, and JT Miller for most of his career.

Career year last year with 40g, 73 points but is that year going to be an outlier when we look back 10 years from now? Tough to say. Last year Pettersson had 89 points, Hughes had 92 points, and Miller had 103 points - I'd argue Boeser's career highs last year were more a product of playing with 3 elite offensive talents.

From a trade standpoint - Vancouver is going to say 'he's a 40 goal scorer and a 70+ point player, you need to offer at least 2-3 premium assets'. But in reality, you're probably getting a 25-30 goal, ~55 point player. Still valuable, but that's a pretty sizable gap.

He'd be a perfect fit for the Kings' need right now so I'm still not opposed - just worried about paying that price. And then from a contract extension perspective, what's his number? Market value for a 25g, 55p player is probably ~$7m - but he's already making $6.5m. I bet he's hoping to make at least $8m on his next contract - Don't know how I'd feel about the Kings signing him to a deal like that.
 
Don't like Boeser for this squad. He's just Tyler Toffoli without the guts and charm.

Too expensive, too risky, and too soft. I don't understand how anyone sees him a fit, especially when you apply the Kings Tax to his already overrated offense.

Plus he's absolutely gone to Minnesota after this season.

Boeser would be one of the top gets at this year's trade deadline were he available. Perfect fit for the Kings' needs this season. Career shooting percentage of 14% says he's a quality sniper. He would slot in next to Kopitar and Kempe nicely and add a right shot to the power play.

I don't think his next contract is an impediment at all. The cap is going way up over the next three years, so a $7-8M contract will fit fine. The Kings need to get into contender status, and adding a quality player like Boeser at the deadline would definitely help move them up a step.

In terms of premium assets, I would offer Turcotte and a 2026 1st round pick. Maybe one of the Kings' young goalie prospects could be in play in place of the pick if the Canucks are thinking beyond Demko.

Getting him to fit under the cap this year is probably the main difficulty. Either Vancouver would have to retain a lot of his current contract or the Kings would have to trade a substantial contract back. Maybe Tanner Jeannot?

Boeser would be an awesome addition.

Couple things:
  • I agree Boeser would be a solid get
  • Assuming Boeser will sign in the $7-8m range is very risky- there may be another team (or multiple teams) out there that offers more
  • Canucks probably laugh and hang up the phone if the offer is Turcotte and a 2026 1st - think you'd need to add quite a bit more
  • Kings aren't trading Jeannot - they become way too soft if they move Jeannot and they already invested too many assets to acquire him
The two points in bold were essentially the main focus of my original post - I think Boeser's value is seriously inflated both in terms of trade and contract extension. Canucks are going to want a haul for him if they decide to make him available. And Boeser is going to want a huge contract give he's a 27 year old sniper with a 40 goal season and multiple 25+ goal seasons under his belt.

Toffoli signed for 4 years, $6m with the Sharks as a 32 year old. With the cap going up, I don't think it's crazy to think Boeser would be asking for over $8m with term.

TLDR: probably too expensive but I do love the idea of adding a sniper of his caliber.
