Speculation: 2025 TDL Discussion

Please for the love of the fans...SELL!!!

Move Gavrikov, Danault, Moore, Jeannot and if someone is dumb enough to take Fiala.
All of those guys except Gavrikov have little or negative value. And Gavrikov has a NMC because of course he does so good luck getting a fair deal when he gets to pick his destination, and that’s before factoring in the Blake tax on any trade.

Gotta hand it to Blake. He was never going to sell anyway but he’s managed to GM himself into a position where going for it with a middling roster is the least-bad option. Pretty remarkable.

Blake and his troupe of bad actors have f***ed the future of this franchise for years to come. A potential solid core of Byfield, Laferriere, Vilardi, Turcotte, Faber, Portillo, Clarke, Spence, Durzi has turned into a bunch of aging shitty players like Fiala, Danault, Lewis, and Moore. I won't include Doughty or Kopi because they're still somewhat useful, though still well aged. At least the Kuemper for PLD trade was a rare win, but that whole debacle should have never happened. I pity the next GM coming in after, its gonna be an ugly mess to clean up. Way worse than what Taylor left Lombardi, at least DT left a future core DL could work with...

This really does reek of Cliff Ronning part deux.
I'm not opposed to it, the options are limited unless Blake trades Danault or Moore to free up more space.

He would be better than nothing, assuming the going rate for a 34 year old rental isn't to significant.

He did have 30 goals last season on a defensive oriented team. And it wasn't some one-off season like Moore, six seasons of 24+ goals, and he has a good shot, it would be one of the best on the Kings. If you stick him with Kopitar and Kempe at ES and have him take Byfield's spot on the PP the team is improved overnight.

Fiala - Kopitar - Palmieri
Kempe - Doughty

It's not the 2002 Red Wings, but it's a hell of a lot more appealing than what we have seen this season.

If it's something like Akil Thomas for Palmieri, sure, why not, although Palmieri's cold streaks are concerning.

He only has two goals and 11 assists in his last 26 games. Is another struggling player really going to help?
Maybe this is where the "excess" defenseman goes.

One does have to worry about getting a streaky player like that , but if he does heat up after a trade someone will look like a genius.
there is a better chance of them looking like a dolt though

Understandable with the concern, and honestly its more likely than not he ends up being another Anson Carter or Mark Parrish and makes zero difference, but right now the Kings are still pretending to be contenders, and nobody in-house is going to fix the PP, and every forward in the top 6 other than Kempe is miscast in the role they currently have.

He's for sure a better fit for a scoring role than Moore, Turcotte, Danault and Fogele.

So, which of the prospects and future assets will they likely be giving up for a soon to be 34-year-old who is an impending UFA?

Palmieri seems like a player that will score some goals the rest of the regular season, be a complete non-factor in the playoffs, then become the Kings’ next 3 year extension mistake.

I doubt NYI sells though. They are currently adding, and Lou seems even more rebuild-averse than Blake at this point.

palmieri might be a mistake that makes me take a season or two off

wrong side of 30, streaky, only played a full season a handful of times in his career

i think he's more likely to score 10 than he is to score 30 again

The problem is still the decision to avoid playmaker centers. Who is going to feed the puck to Palmieri? Its still a case of blunt force tools without a cutting edge.

Three second lines means all support, no lead.

Palmeri is making 5 AAV. Don't think NYI are fans of retaining money on contracts. Money would need to go out.

Thanks for making me re-live that Ziggy

Kings are just doing it with literally the same people involved

It's the year 2000. After another disappointing couple of seasons involving missed playoffs or first round losses, The Los Angeles Kings get out to a hot start through the first few months before a road trip around the turn of the year starts to derail them...they fumble around playing slightly .500 hockey to land in the unfortunate 'Pacific' playoff spot out of the division lead, forced to play against arguably the best players in the era trying to establish dominance after losing in the previous year to the Stanley Cup Champion. They get unceremoniously turfed in just a few games due to a patchwork roster that doesn't have much of an identity. Their 1 and 2cs are primarily defensive and much of the scoring is laid onto the back of a dynamic winger. Fortunately they still have a Norris Caliber dman, though aging. But years of sketchy management are catching up, with dwindling assets and an aging roster despite a lack of success, and appear headed towards a black hole. Familiar names in the organization include Rob Blake, Luc Robitaille, Glen Murray, Nelson Emerson, Craig Johnson, and Sean O'Donnell.
