What you're saying makes sense
BUT
and it's a big one
You have to think this through like you're Blake, you've burned through nearly all your assets, gotten multiple mulligans on dogshit contracts, and have sold that "we were right there" with our window open now.
This is a guy who is GMing for the NOW, and possibly his job. You think he gives a shit about Greentree or Ziemmer or the next 3 firsts while staring down the barrel of the Oilers for the fourth time in a row? This guy, while watching Vilardi and Faber and countless others cruise around with greater success elsewhere?
This. What sucks is, Vilardi is the type of forward the Kings need, right now. So, after losing so many assets to get PLD...they are going to deal more assets, to get a player that is a tier or 2 below Gabe...you know it.
With Moore being abysmal his last 19 games - 3 goals; 2 EN. And Danault, 2 goals last 31...this is where
offense dies. And to think they are both fixtures on PP2? Unreal, Both 0 PP goals and they've created nothing.
3 years ago, most nights, the best line was Danault, Arvidsson, Moore. They were intense, outworking their opponents consistently and all 3 gelled and constantly created chances. Yes, Arvy was a big part of that, but Moore and Danault were great as well. What has happened? Moore is soft, doesn't battle, is not as shifty skating and looks like a shell of himself. He can snipe, yes. But not creating his own chances and whatever line he's on, he's doing nothing.
Phil? He's also soft, not creating much and just looks like he's out there, skating reasonably hard, yet not doing much of anything in the ozone.
So why deal assets, unless you're making a more of a hockey trade and dealing Moore. (get rid of one of your problems and offset 4 M cap to get a superior player) I'd love to see something like Moore + #2 2024 or even Moore + #1 2026 to get a true upgrade. (I'm keeping #1 2025 for the LA Draft at Crypto) Thinking along lines of Laine, Norris...I'd consider dealing George, Dvorak. I'd want to keep Greentree, Ziemmer, Slukynsky and Wooley.
In a perfect world, I'd keep George and Slukynsky, but this world of Kings hockey is not perfect. I have a feeling Hammer may be the slightly better one.
If they get a Rackell or Zucker type...meh. I'd rather it be like 2012 and they get Carter...or 2014 and get Gaborik. If DL got tier 2 or tier 3 forward talent, maybe no cups. Yeah, this team is not winning a cup, but it doens't mean they should shy away from getting a more of an impact player.
I'd LOVE to see them sit Moore or Phil and give a jolt to the team and them. I'd consider calling up Studnicka, honestly. I would have played Arty, but oh well.
wildcard: that Laferriere is closer to his first 3 weeks, than his last 2 months. I don't think he's lost it. He's still better than Moore and Phil. Since he was at his best with Kopi and Kempe, I'd put him there. Nothing to lose., to give it a shot. Put him with Moore and Phil is a waste. I saw someone post his stats with Turcotte when they're together and it was insane....think 8 goals for and 1 against. Yet, they manage to keep them away from each other. If you want Turcotte and Laf to succeed, put them where they do best.
Turcotte basically was #1 #2 star for 3 games and a catalyst in 3 wins...and yet they F him more than anyone...pull him off line 1 and put him line 4 or miss a few shifts..why? He's been lightyears better than Phil, Moore and Lewis...yet those 3 never miss a shift.
