2025 Summer Transfer Rumors and Discussion Closed Window

This guy is rarely wrong for MLS and USMNT

He also has the best mustache in the business.
Price yes. But he's way better than Rashford.
Again, I think I would be willing to say better, but not way better. And I say that as someone who doesn't like Rashford that much. This is Diaz's first year with double digit PL goals and even that didn't really come close to Rashford's peak output. The question is whether you think Rashford can find that form again.

Wearing a pencil moustache in Spain will teach decent people to stay away though...
To be clear, I meant Bogert, not Cardoso

My dad had a great mustache in the 70s/80s. The first time I “grew” one (probably after I came home from college) he just looks at me and says “you call that a mustache”. Didn’t try again for like ten years after

Moustaches are cool. Pencil moustaches (think Clark Gable) remind locals of the fascist dictatorship, it was their hitlerstache

On the other hand you have local left wing players like Bellerin and Camello rocking them, so who the hell knows anymore? I still get the ick whenever I see one

Apparently Sporting doesn't want to go lower than EUR 80 m (GBP 67 m). It would almost be funny if another window went by with no one picking him up. (If it meant Arsenal went another window without getting a striker though, it would be a lot less funny.)

Yeah, and I don’t want to pay for gas by I still do it. I think Sporting can be talked down from that, but how much is the question.

Caicedo is worth 116M? Fat chance.

Cucu was the glaring one that list for me.

This is where it sounds like things come together. I’m guessing we’d cover 7-8 million of his wage, so how they arrive at that would be the question.

All the strikers available all have issues and worries that they will bust. There isn't a proven Haaland out there this window if you'd ask me. Osimhen is easily the best, but I feel a ton of clubs (aka Arsenal) are steering clear because he would be immensely expensive. If Chelsea couldn't get the deal done last year, hard to think we would be in the same conversation. Sesko has awesome potential, but all it is is potential and he has a similar game to Havertz. Ekitike is way too hard to gauge atm to be a considerable target for his price range. Gyokeres failed in the EPL before, a big risk that he could bust again in the EPL's style of football.

Even with all the negative posts I made in the EPL gameday threads about lacking a #9, I wouldn't be too distraught if we walked away with nothing again. As long as Nico Williams was brought in to replace the huge issues we have on the left side. A front three of Williams - Havertz - Saka would and could win an EPL title IMHO, but hard to say if they could win a CL title compared to Williams - Gyokeres/Sesko - Saka.

What? When did Gyokeres play in the Premiership? He played in the Championship with Coventry where he did well.

Have him in my keeper setup and I’m fine with this.

Gyökeres has 20 penalties this season.

I would ask for a source, but before I do that I fact check. Indeed, 20 penalties this season per Transfermarkt. However, this is a bit lacking in context. 20 penalties in all competitions for both Sporting and Sweden. Looking at all of those competitions, it’s 20 penalties out of… 63 goals. Food for thought:

—How many of those penalties did he himself win?
—What was his conversion rate?
—He also had 15 assists in those same competitions.

Ok but I asked if fans of other premier league teams would be jumping to take Gyokeres at that fee. How confident is everyone that he will tear up the premier league ?

The fee is high to be sure, but I think he would do well enough. Depends on the club he’d land at.

The thing about Darwin, was they he scored against some big hitters in UCL. Was scoring against teams like Bayern/Barcelona/Liverpool. And he was like 22. Gyokeres is about to turn 27 and he has only scored at an elite clip in Portugal

The Barca Nunez scored against wasn’t a heavy hitter, much like the City Gyokeres scored against this season. We had Koeman as manager, replaced shortly by Sergi before Xavi and we were dumped out of the CL. As for Darwin’s elite clip, I wouldn’t use one season as a great sample size. As for Gyokeres’ record in Portugal, notably better than Nunez’s.

I don't get Deco's infatuation with Rashford. This is not the kind of signing we should be making. Insanity

I think it’s down to a couple of things. First, as per Bojan Sr’s recent comments, he can play out wide or up top. Second, I think he envisions Rashford playing under Flick and thinks he’ll thrive. Personally, I’m not a fan even on loan, but it could be worse.

As a loan with no obligation I’m ok with it. Way better than Diaz that’s insanity.

Yes, based on the financials.

RM apparently willing to pay 10m to have TAA for the Club World Cup. Do it. See ya pal.

See. Like I said, they want this Club World Cup and they’d negotiate to get him. Now make them pay.

My metric was “does the buyer think of it as a regrettable purchase” (because that was the implication of the tweet I was answering)

Chelsea don’t regret Cucurella.

Re: Gyokeres, without commenting on the player, 20 goals of 63 being penalties does definitely reduce the 63. But 43 non penalty goals is in itself notable.

Gyokeres is in his prime though. Gyokeres came to Portugal at 25. Darwin is 25 this season, so he must have been 20/21 when he joined Benfica, so yeah it’s not a shock that Gyokeres has a better record. Gyokeres is too physically dominant for a league with a lot of youth in to. He leaves that league, especially to go back to England where he doesn’t have the physical edge every week? And he doesn’t have the the on ball skills to help compensate for losing the physicality advantage.

I am surprised that nobody is interested in Marcus Rashford. Well, Im not surprised because he's the under performer on a team everyone hates. On his day, he's unstoppable. He has some of the best ball control in the league.

No takers ? Even at a reduced fee ?

Which is all good and well, but I was replying to Duchene who was discussing a player’s worth. Either way, I imagine Chelsea don’t regret any purchases.

43 includes international duty against some weak competition to be fair. Overall, I think it’s harsh to dismiss him after the season he had, but I do agree the fee is too high and there is some risk involved.

The season you referenced Nunez was 22, he was 21 when he joined Benfica the season prior.

I think it depends on who he joins, but again, he has experience in the Championship which I doubt is notably less physical than the Premiership. To the original discussion, I’d bet he’d have been better than Hojlund and Zirkzee for United.

Was going to mention him to...

Id rather Nico better now and the future but alas. Id also like Barca to dip into SA for some futures but right now if they get Garcia im more than happy regardless of what happens the rest of the summer.

Definitely would rather Nico. I think last Summer might have been a true “you had your chance” moment. I don’t subscribe to that line of thinking in his case, but if it were to happen again this Summer than I would stand by it.

It’s really too bad we didn’t get to see Dani Rodriguez or some of the other young lads. I’d rather give them a punt or excercise a buyback option than spend on the wrong player.

But right now Man United is a mid-table team. I don't think any of those players elevate a team from being midtable to being a European contender. Man United needs one or two players who raise their ceiling more so than players that raise their floor.
I saw a stat where it pretty much said that Man United should have been relegated. If you take away all their points from the bottom three clubs, they would have been relegated at the same time as Soton was.
