better late than never I guess but Toronto really should have traded away one of their core forwards like a half decade ago at this point even just to shake up the locker room, it's been so obvious for so long that that group together is worse than the sum of it's parts and that rears it's head in the Playoffs every year over and over again

By advancing past Round 2, Florida will send a 2027 first-round pick to Boston to complete the Brad Marchand trade.That's a price they'll gladly pay. Marchand was arguably the best player on the ice in the series.

Marner gets eaten alive in the dirty areas during the playoffs. Expecting a monster contract after providing zero playoff hero moments after 9 years is a really tough sell for me. The guy has 13 goals in 70 playoff games... That's a 15 goal pace over 82 games
I wouldn't pay 12+ million dollars for that kind of disappearing act when a player that good doesn't make clutch plays when it matters most

Marner at 11 max. He isn’t worth a cent more. Matthews is a way bigger problem in toronto but you can’t have 13+ tied up in a playoff no show.

Seeing Toronto for the last decade make me so, so grateful that Yzerman and co were able to win their cups and in such dominant fashion. I'd be so broken as a fan if the best players in the franchise's history did this year after year.

will be even tougher to make playoffs if BJs, Bruins, maybe NYI or rangers, any east team gets marner.
could see leafs falling off quite a bit if they lose marner, but likely still solidly in the playoffs.
(assuming max term) i still maintain his ask from the leafs will be 14x8 and if walks to ufa, some team will pay him the 15 mil unless he goes to a low state state or something. kind of doubt it tho because guy is all ego and will want the highest AAV (real money comes 2nd)

Marner has he will go to another team and do well in the playoffs written all over him. Just a thing that's gonna happen.

I feel like most of the "core 4" would do well if they moved on. Any of their big names would be a great add for most playoff teams... its a crushing amount of pressure in Toronto right now. Toronto is a toxic environment for players when things go sideways even a little bit.... no doubt there will be reports of "fans" sending threats, hate mail, all types of craziness to Leaf players after tonight's game. The spotlight is so bright in some Canadian markets, it really is a huge deterrent for free agents... it has to be. Marner being from Toronto only makes it increasingly messy. At least Matthews and Nylander can leave, be hated and not care.

judging by SY's track record i dont think he will have a completive offer for marner. he will overpay for players but doesnt really have a history of big game UFA hunting as far as i caan tell.
