So who would we want from the Leafs?
No thanks to Marner. Tavares could be interesting.
I'll still take Marner easily, and well Tavares...

I see Tavares signing on a few more seasons with Tronna for a 'reasonable' salary...Marner is most likely gone - probably to the highest bidder...While I'm not thrilled with his playoff history, but ya cannot argue his reg season numbers remain top notch and that alone will help us out in getting into the post season.
We gonna get in soon enough, if we make other moves. Without totally screwing up our salary structure and overpaying for someone who is absoluety shameful in the playoffs. I'm not interested in just getting to the dance, I want players who help winning it all. If Marner was a 2RW making 7mil, then I'd agree with you. Cuz you can get by with 7mil underperforming in the playoffs. You simply cannot get by with a 13mil dollar, by far your highest paid player, being a non-factor, when the lights are brightest.I'll still take Marner easily, and well Tavares...

SDP just gave some f***in shocking stats: Marner has played in 19 games 5,6 and 7 between 2019 and 2025. He has 0 goals and 6 assists in those games.
HELL TO THE f***IN NO to Marner
Speak for yourselfWell, well, well, looks like it was the leafs year huh? Amazing job by them. Never expect chokers to become champions. And no we do not want Marner.
Have given my 2 cents several times in other threads: UFAs, trades and integrating your kids. But I wanna hear, why you want him and why you seemingly ignore his obvious shortcomings which are facts at this point?Soon enough?
What moves?
He's a UFA - nothing spent other than cap space...Can't expect a big value player in a trade unless we give back something of significant value in return.Have given my 2 cents several times in other threads: UFAs, trades and integrating your kids. Yeah - I mean who wants a guy that'll help us get into the playoffs...Right?Marner just put up 102 points in a season, that's something we don't need or want in a player.
I have a feeling someone outta the blue will pay him more...Marner was close to Marleau for a few seasons...Wonder if San Jose might be a destination...Probably not since he'll likely want to land on a team with potential to win the Cup...Wonder if he'd wear #61 instead of his usual #16?Welcome to Detroit Marner!
102pts alongside Matthews. The math has already been done. On the Wings Marner would be right around a ppg player. This, compounded by the fact that he disappears in the playoffs and will make more than 4mil more than our captain, is alarming and does not warrant more salary than Mackinnon. Do not wanna become the Leafs 2.0 or the early 90s Wings again. That is what you are headed for. The only thing this signing would accomplish, is an earlier playoff appearance, but with a perennial choker at the helm.Marner just put up 102 points in a season, that's something we don't need or want in a player.
Yeah, you are aiming at making the playoffs, which he'd help with, no doubt. I am aiming at winning the Cup, which he'd make almost impossible with his Hodini act in the deciding games. He's a UFA - nothing spent other than cap space...Can't expect a big value player in a trade unless we give back something of significant value in return.
He'll be our top offensive player instantly.
Has his playoff woes, but is a solid reg season guy.
We need him more than another random UFA Copp/Compher/Tarasenko clone in order to land a wildcard spot.
Toronto is a team, and something is wrong with them as a team. Being afraid of every player on that roster because they fail together would be as silly as not wanting Connor Bedard because Chicago sucks.102pts alongside Matthews. The math has already been done. Misplaced retort, since I would take Nylander in a heartbeat. He delivers in the playoffs. Of the "Core Four" Marner has by far the lowest impact on high leverage games. The Bedard comparison is nonsensical, since he has never been to the postseason. Marner has had countless chances to redeem himself, to show he is not a perimeter p***y that always disappears. FAILED. 13mil for that? Nope. Lucky, cuz we are not getting him anyway.Toronto is a team, and something is wrong with them as a team. Is Nylander available in FA?Misplaced retort, since I would take Nylander in a heartbeat. He delivers in the playoffs. Of the "Core Four" Marner has by far the lowest impact on high leverage games. You argued, that the Leafs as a team are flawed. I may agree, but Nylander is carrying his weight in the playoffs, Marner is not. His status is irrelevant to the arguement, cuz my point was illustrating, that the Leafs playoff fails are in large part cuz Marner is not performing. Is Nylander available in FA?
If Marner’s biggest flaw is being almost PPG in the playoffs you live with it.
If he scored only 80pts per season over the length of his Detroit tenure and gives me Rantanen-esque production in the postseason, then I will gladly beat the drum for him - even shell out 13mil. But he is direct opposite of Rantanen in the playoffs.Marner has played in 19 games 5,6 and 7 between 2019 and 2025. He has 0 goals and 6 assists in those games.

Whatever goes on in Toronto is amazing to me. It's not just one player, it's the whole team. Domi, all the guys they traded for/brought in.We don't have the luxury of turning down a Marner for free. FREE.
I know it's been a while since no playoffs but even Datsyuk would have a stinker series and Zetterberg would carry.
