In a different timeline sure, but Cassidy's time was up here in this one.

Fighting with players, fighting with assistant coaches, it was time. He's a good coach but most coaches have a shelf life in the NHL and his was up here.

Wow I actually didn’t hear about this, care to elaborate? I know some players didn’t like him (although it was never clear really who - DeBrusk and McAvoy were two I believe, but it was never actually clear if Bergeron didn’t like him and in hindsight it seemed like the Krejci stuff might have just been convenient timing in that his contract was up and he wanted to play at home at least once before his career was up)

I read a comment recently that suggested Bergeron didn’t like the Cassidy firing.

I am happy for two reasons: The Jets won and the Blues lost. I've always liked the Jets since they returned to the NHL. They've got a very good team now & I'd love to see them go all the way. Just imagine the celebrations in Winnipeg!

As For the Blues I hate them for 2019 and I especially despise Binnington. Monty too what he did in Boston showed a complete lack of integrity.

Many Cup winners have faced that kind of adversity in the first round.

Could be a good sign for the Jets.

I mean, there was very public spats with players, I think it was Gryz that was the worst that Bergy had to step in. There was a core of bruins that didn't like him that has seemingly all also been shipped out (except maybe McAvoy?). I know more informed people have said Bergy and March loved him and weren't part of that.

The coaches, something happened with Kevin Dean(sp?) and he went from being on the bench, to up in the booth, to let go after the year. There's a guy on the bruins reddit who swears it was a physical altercation and there was a video. I've never seen it but obviously something happened.

Just wondering, do surmise all this from observing the Bruins games or do you have some inside info?
Watching the games and comments from more informed people than me. I mean it was clear he was changing the system, especially this year they completely overhauled how they were playing D at the beginning of the year and it just didn't work. Going from a zone defense to a hybrid system, there was talk during preseason/early games.

My personal opinion of when this season went off the rails is after the new defensive system completely sucked again Florida the first 2 games against them this year the players got pissed and gave up.

Someone much better at X's and O's than me can break down the adjustments more than me.

Sure, that was it.

Dean "resigned" (was fired?) during the season, just before Cassidy was canned.

I still root for Toronto when the B's aren't in the equation. I watched their (very likeable) teams when I was a kid back in the 70's. They were often the underdog but had great players like Sittler, McDonald, Turnbull, Salming, Palmatier, Williams...... .

Plus they had Ballard and Clancy looking down on the games from up in the rafters. I love hockey but it lacks a lot of the colorful characters it used to have.
Good points, and I liked those players, too. But I've just been force-fed Leafs coverage and been told how great they are for too long. Could never root for them.

Winning or losing the first round of the playoffs isn’t an indictment of whether Monty should or shouldn’t have been fired. It’s only in the minds of bitter Bruins fans.

Take a look at this St Louis roster. They should have been eliminated in 5 by Winnipeg. The fact that they had a 2 goal lead in Game 7 IN WINNIPEG, with 2 minutes left is nuts. People are gonna create their own narrative, but the fact that Winnipeg couldn’t close out the weakest team in the West without double OT at home in Game 7, tells me more about Winnipeg than St Louis.....and I HATE the city of St Louis, and all its sports teams with every fiber of my body (they DO make incredible BBQ ribs though, I'll give them that....).

Armchair fans are quick to fire off the “choker” label when it suits them. If Winnipeg loses this game, it would’ve been Hellebuyck. They didn’t, so now it’s Monty, who logged 0min of ice time.

Its ridiculous.
When you have a 2 goal lead with 1:56 left in the 3rd period of a game 7 and lose, then fans and or media will use word choke. You make good points though for sure.I am just glad I will not have to hear about Bruins let him go and Cassidy to and they are coaching playoff teams etc etc etc.

So the Leafs didnt choke in 2013?

Regardless of the circumstances, having a 2 goal lead with 2 min to play in game 7 and losing is a choke.

He's giving the Jets to much credit, they aren't much better than the Blues, in fact missing the guys they did made the blues a better team.

I find this years playoffs wide open as to me there is not one team other than Florida that has been overly impressive constantly.

I see Florida rolling into the finals

Congrats to the Jets! Now they get to be wrecked by the Stars. Let's go Jets Stars, Panthers, Oilers Knights, and Hurricanes!!
Fixed it.

I don't want either the Caps or Carolina to win :dunno: I only want the Panthers to win one more round.

Go Jets and Oilers!

Cassidy should still be here

He had a lot of fault for 2019 and he knows it. The team was set to be in the finals again in 2020 and then covid happened. 2021 and 22 everyone underperformed, and I think Cassidy mentally needed a change of scenery. A lot of folks probably did. The Covid year and everything it entailed was really tough on humans, not enough of us acknowledge it.

But, Cassidy is a great coach and the bruins would have one less box to check if things fell the right way.

In another timeline, the bruins have 2 cups under Cassidy, one in 19 and they repeat in 2020. After that, they make better decisions at the deadline and don’t destroy the cupboards because there isn’t as much pressure to win it all

Covid truly f***ed this team, possibly more than any other when you look at the legacy of everything that happened starting with that year.

2019 was largely on Cassidy but every coach makes mistakes and grows. The players still should have showed more fight in that game 7 despite the X’s and O’s Not being adjusted by coaching after that first period
Bruce was a good coach and I don't have a problem with him, but he ran his course and had lost the room at that point so it was time to move on. His hard ass ways brought him success but have a shelf life within a locker room. I don't hate him, but I do hate Monty for being a coward and a sneak.

I have no tangible evidence, but I always found it to be very damning timing for Cassidy with Krejci coming back essentially right after he was fired..

I think on the most recent Morning Bru, Razor said something along the lines of losing 2019 drove Cassidy obsessed with winning the cup and relationships were damaged because of his behavior or something (paraphrasing).
