New thread smell. Gotta get some good whiffs in before someone ruins it! 😂😉

For what it's worth... the more I think about it, the more I believe that if Roman Anthony starts to hit before the trade deadline, Jarren Duran will get moved for a younger starting pitcher.
It wouldn't shock me. There seems to be some smoke around him. If he's not moved at the trade deadline, I could see him being dealt in the offseason. There aren't many players on the market with his skill set.

Good article, IMO.

Fair…didn’t really offer anything that we didn’t know.

In the end, it doesn’t change my opinion that you simply play where you’re told, when you’re told.

yeah, no. Im not blaming anyone for pushing back on learning a new position, from scratch during the season.

one thing I havent seen mentioned is the fact that he would've gotten grilled by fans/media and maybe the team for errors while learning 1B. or if his offense slipped because he's focusing on learning 1B, same thing, he'd get grilled.

It’s first base.

To me this is like a McDonalds employee saying they can’t learn to make a burger because they started out making fries.

Even at the MLB level, it’s an easy move.

Except Devers would be more like the owner of a dozen McDonalds being asked to make fries.

He already gave up third base after signing a huge deal to be their third baseman. Now, after never playing a pitch at first base in his entire big league career they just want him to move to a position he has no idea how to play? Here's an idea, how about you just call up Toro to play first who had a little bit of exposure to the position in his past.

I just don’t see first and third base being all that different.

Hundreds of players have made that move or switch back and forth.

I know Devers is almost historically bad defensively, but if there is a position that literally any major leaguer should be able to play with little instruction, it’s first base.

30 million dollars a year is a big commitment to a guy…..even if those that are paying him are the absolute worst people in the world.

Just do what you’re asked and live better than 99.5% of people in the world without whining and acting like your job depends on your ability to split the atom with a magnifying glass.

At least there are two who are reporting the same thing.

Should/could ownership have done a better job communicating with Devers in the off-season regarding signing Bregman/trading for Arenando? Absolutely.

Does ownership do a lot of stupid things? Absolutely.

Did Breslow get a bad deal for a top 15 bat? Absolutely.

Can all of that can be true and the player still come out looking like an asshole? Absolutely.

Devers is a clown with that attitude, and can absolutely understand why they (Henry) had enough.

By next season Casas should be back and possibly Blaze Jordan vying for a spot at 1B. Tibbs is going to be a 1B and he was starting to dominate high A ball with power before the trade - he’s legit high end first base prospect as well

I would not teach Campbell 1B ~ let him focus on 2B

Raffy would have enjoyed first watching the way he interacts with the opposition and for a bull he’s a very good athlete already playing in the dirt.

He should have said yes to Henry - but is theee any way I can do a lot of work there, before I jump in around July 1

I Also don’t see Duran dealt during season

The question is how bleeping good is the Password at Worcester

JP Ricciardi said he’s unreal - in the big 4 realm

He’s already cracked the top 100 in BBA mid year out last week

So Duran I can see off season moved

The Sox are my child hood Sox- Lot of drama lot of young talent

I'd trust Buster Olney.
Generally, I do. However, he's reported the Sox didn't speak with other teams about Devers before the trade. We're seeing others report the Sox have spoken with the Braves, Jays, Padres and now the Cubs and Mariners. There have been a few other minor spots when he's been off, although nothing to get in a tizzy about.

Breslow let it slip during the press conference that the Sox have to figure out a long-term solution at 1B before catching himself by saying Casas has a long road ahead of him. Carrabis confirmed recently that they've been trying to deal him since last offseason. Tibbs or Jordan might be the long-term answers.
