Don't need him, we've got Toro!

YepIt is sad when the small to mid-market Royals will call up a top prospect but the Red Sox will not due to money.
How do you figure that keeping Anthony in the minors has to do with money? It is sad when the small to mid-market Royals will call up a top prospect but the Red Sox will not due to money.
They don't want to pay him a rookie of the year or other bonuses. They are also still saving service time on the back end are they not?How do you figure that keeping Anthony in the minors has to do with money?
I'm pretty sure that if the Red Sox thought Roman Anthony had a legitimate chance to win Rookie of the Year, he'd be in the Major Leagues, if for no other reason than they'd covet the 1st round pick they'd get in 2026 as part of the Prospect Promotion Incentive. They don't want to pay him a rookie of the year or other bonuses. And whose fault is it, that they are so highly rated? I would say the coaches at all levels, and even people outside the organization who want a job in it instead of working for fangraphs. They have Mayer and Campbell in the lineup right now.
Both highly rated. Both struggling at this level.

An alternative explanation could be that it's not anyone's fault, and that hitting in the Major Leagues is really, really difficult, and sometimes young players struggle for a bit before they figure things out.And whose fault is that, since they are so highly rated? Is De Vries significantly better than Franklin Arias?Leo De Vries or I ain’t interested
I like that he’s a switch hitter with more pop, Arias might have the higher floor* though with the hit tool + glove at SS.Is De Vries significantly better than Franklin Arias?
I'm not so sure.
Why exactly is Crochet not an ace?Okay, maybe Crochet is an ace. I still don't think so. ...Trev with the big day. It had to happen over 162. Who is Nate Eaton indeed? One in a row. Break em up.
He has a limited Pitch repertoire, doesn't work both sides of the plate. Another start like yesterday against a quality lineup, and I might change my mind. Why exactly is Crochet not an ace?
I get concerns around his innings and potential injury, but he's exactly what you want in a top of the rotation guy. Limited base runners, lots of swings and misses, and giving the team a chance to win .
He's had one "bad" start, and it was 5ip 4ER with 5 walks.
He's lost games where he went 7.1 with 1 run, 6.2 with 2 runs, 7 with 2 runs.
For a team full of mid, he's been everything he was billed to be.
He has 4 pitches he throws more than 10% of the time, and a changeup he throws semi regularly. What the hell do you mean he has limited pitch repertoire? He has a limited Pitch repertoire, doesn't work both sides of the plate. Good post. Though the Bregman contract kind of makes the argument for me not against me. I suppose it is just a service time issue in the end.I'm pretty sure that if the Red Sox thought Roman Anthony had a legitimate chance to win Rookie of the Year, he'd be in the Major Leagues, if for no other reason than they'd covet the 1st round pick they'd get in 2026 as part of the Prospect Promotion Incentive.
It's not out of the question, but generally team's don't really include bonuses in contracts for things like awards and statistical achievements any more. And it's even more rare for those sorts of bonuses to be in a player's first Major League contract. I'd honestly be shocked if Roman Anthony had a bonus in his contract for winning Rookie of the Year.
Could they be trying to manipulate his service time? Yeah, I guess that's a possibility. But this is the same team that paid huge amounts of money to get Chris Sale and David Price to go play somewhere else, and just gave Alex Bregman $40 million/year to avoid having to give him a longer term contract. I can't image saving a few million five or six years from now is a significant motivating factor.
So, why isn't Anthony in Boston. I'd say it's a combination of factors. I think they'd like to see him hit the ball in the air to RF on a more regular basis. I think that when they call him up, they want him to play every day, and their OF situation is currently a bit of a log jam. And yeah, there are players in the lineup right now that are scuffling, and they want to give those players a legitimate chance to work their way out of their slumps.
