Red Sox/MLB 2025 Regular Season II

FWIW, bunting is almost always a bad idea.

Almost always.

Qualifier --- in today's game where so few are actually good at it.

I look at a guy like Duran and am absolutely amazed that he doesn't work at it to the point where he's even just proficient and then lay one down every once in a while, when the 3B plays deep.

A guy like him should be able to get on at least 1/3 of the time via bunt --- then 70% of the time he gets on, he should steal 2nd.

Agreed, he could catch alot of teams that way

In my day, we walked 50 miles to school uphill both ways. JK, I do remember a day when the likes of Remy would try to bunt for a hit at least once a game and suicide squeezes happened once a week.

The Raffy trade rumors are already being speculated on, and a lot of people are pointing to Philly because Dombrowski already has a relationship with Devers and they need to upgrade from Bohm who is struggling at the plate and was never good in the field.

I just don't see anything they can realistically offer that will help us in the short term. There'd have to be another team in the deal to facilitate. Not sure on which good hitting corner infielders would be available right now. Looking at the teams in the bottom of the standings, it seems like slim pickings.

Whether Devers is dealt or not, there's not a ton of 1B options on the market. Absolutely nothing available really on teams toward the bottom of the standings. Looking at the teams that are in the .500 range like us and may want a shakeup, Josh Naylor in Arizona and Rhys Hoskins in Milwaukee would be good targets. I don't really want to trade in the division because they'll extort us in the return, but if the Orioles continue to slump they might be open to trading O'Hearn, who'd be a good 1B/DH fit.

But just looking realistically I don't think there's a lot they can do in-season unless Breslow gets very creative, so we're probably looking at a disgruntled Raffy DHing the rest of the year and some rotation of Romy/Grandal/Toro at first, with Roman Anthony probably being delayed from coming up to the majors due to being blocked by all the outfielders on the roster and Masataka Yoshida getting the Rusney Castillo treatment.

In some ways I sympathize with Devers that he signed his long term deal being promised by Chaim Bloom that he's the long term 3B, then two years later Bloom is gone and the new guy signed a better third baseman to supplant you and and keeps asking you to move positions. I can see how that could be disappointing or frustrating. But the way he's reacting shows a lack of maturity or understanding and it really screws over his other 25 teammates in that locker room, and he doesn't see it. He's putting his own interests above those of the team and that's where he's going to lose all respect from the fanbase. I don't think they'll be able to trade him for acceptable value during the year without completely blowing up this season, but I do think he's gone this winter.

They can't keep trotting Houck out there.

If it's not oan injury, it's mental at this point. He looks like he completely forgot how to pitch.

IL him with "tightness", maybe of the butthole variety, and then try to get him right as a reliever in AAA.

Dobbins deserves to take his spot.

Houck needs that phantom IL stint stat

Nope. It's almost always a bad idea, whether the batter is good or bad at bunting. Most of the time, you're doing the other team a favor by bunting.

They don't need to put him on the Injured List. He has options. They can just send him to Worcester.
