Red Sox/MLB 2025 Regular Season II

Anthony
Devers
Yoshida (when healthy)
Abreu

Surely one of these guys could be a stop gap at 1B? On top of not hitting, Casas was never a good defensive player either. Can it get that much worse? Under no circumstances do I want them playing a random guy at 1B just because he's done it before and can field the position. Don't put a guy there who can't hit at all. Depending on when Anthony is coming up maybe right now the ideal scenario is Yoshida can function at 1B? Or Devers if he wants to play the field. Devers/Yoshida could have a god damn competition at 1B where they are rotating at big league level between 1B and DH. Whoever sucks the least wins the fielding job.

I hate to be Captain Obvious here but they have had Mayer at every infield position during his development but first base. I say he's a good enough defender to give him a shot. His bat would also be a welcome addition. Find a way to bring both Mayer and Anthony up now and move along some dead wood.

Gotta think the Sox will talk internally about Rizzo as a replacement at 1st.
To be honest, I'm surprised he's still available.

I thought a team like Milwaukee would have tried to grab him on the cheap for a 1yr deal by now, to platoon him with Hoskins. The fact that nobody has already, has me wondering if he's cooked.

Probably wants to play on a contender.

He refused to take a vet deal with the Yanks. If he did, he would of been back.

Might be picky.

I also heard he doesn't want to backup or platoon and only wants to start. Which makes this really the only realistic landing spot for him. But I've always hated on him so it's going to be kind watching Pat Maroon in a Bruins jersey

Is it the Yankee stink?

He's actually a pretty good dude. At least he was when he was with the Cubs.

I have finished Ken Burns baseball. The 10th inning went deep into Barry Bonds who I honestly didn't follow much due to the Sox 2004 craziness. It was an interesting refresh on all the BS that surrounded him.

Most shocking thing about it was watching 20 hours of the commentators in 1992 vs. when they appear again in 2009. Same voices but father time catches up with us all.

I love that documentary. Must have seen it at least 5 times and still watch it whenever they show it on MLB Network every winter. My only critique is all the nerds from New York that they interview, waxing nostalgic about their childhood memories. Like who really gives a shit about what Daniel Okrent or Stephen Jay Gould thinks? I've never even heard of Stephen Jay Gould.....

Buck O'Neil was amazing, however.

This is one of my favorite clips. I still play baseball at age 56. I'm a left handed pitcher/corner IF-OF and I wear #37 (not a coincidence). I still throw a nasty 2 seamer, and a good slider and curve ball. I too, do NOT have a good 4 seam fastball. I AM a better hitter than Bill Lee though. Hit .452 last year.

Marcelo Mayer is not a first baseman.
