GDT: 2025 Playoffs - First Round

Montreal potentially lasting longer than New Jersey is kind of funny.

I wonder if there is potential for them to shakeup their wingers and if NYI would be a match.

It's not a potential, it's a reality after last night (unless we're talking playoff rounds). I'm not sure if that speaks more about Toronto or more about New Jersey though...

Either way, I'm thrilled Toronto made the path to the next round a little more difficult for themselves. If Florida can wrap up their series tonight it'll mean they get a little extra rest before the next series starts too.

Palat for Engvall, they save 3M on the cap and NYI gets out of the Engvall deal early.

Toronto/Florida both having similar issues of 2-3 big players being quiet so far.

Everyone got all excited about the Devils speed, transition, etc. They collect a lot of points in the regular season because of it. It’s natural in that sense.

However, it’s a waif of a team, Meier was a bad trade, and Hughes, while not playing, is weak, injury prone, and watching him in past playoffs plus 4Nations, he ain’t player that’s gonna be the ‘it’ factor in the playoffs.

Markstrom has always been very hot or cold. Dougie Hamilton showed his inner Dobson this series too.

The Devils need changes, it’s whether they can stomach making them tbh.

Yeah, the Devs were future Cup winners to many, but it always seemed like Fitz was putting together a team built for regular season success, not for the playoffs.

Like many baseball offenses hit in the regular season but are not really playoff built. Have seen that many times over the years. When you're facing plenty of 3-4-5 starters and bad pens in season a lineup with no speed who Ks alot and hits tons of homers can win 98 games but that sort of lineup won't usually win a World Series or go deep. Plenty of NHL teams like that on offense, usually its a case of they're too small for playoff hockey which is an issue with NJ
