GDT: 2025 Playoffs - Conference Finals

If Tavares didn’t spend the better part of 7 years straight up lying and then the last year asking not to be traded, I’d have no issues with him

But he did, so as a hockey player he can go f*** himself. As a person I wish him and his family nothing but the best

I see it kind of in-between you two.

Tavares was tone-deaf and made mistakes in his exit.

But he wasn't just intentionally being an asshole. He had his family, financial future, professional future all to think about... it was a hectic week.

He may well have meant one thing during the regular season then changed his mind. We will never know.

I feel pretty comfortable with it now that the dust has settled and we performed better over the course of his seven year deal. He may never say it, but you KNOW Tavares knows in his heart he made the wrong choice. JT is a competitive guy, I am sure he is absolutely pissed off about how the leafs have performed. It just may not seem like it because frankly, the guy is borderline on the spectrum and seems to emote very little xD

Holding on to hatred isn't worth it. Like Milbury is still around as a pundit talking like he knows a single thing about hockey, and that is aggravating too, but I am not going to let it cost me sleep.

Not sure I ever posted this before but his mind mighta been made up long before. He and his fiancee at the time lived in a ritzy building in Mineola where a close friend of mine lived at the time caring for her mother. She said he and his wife moved out of the building in like mid April. Certainly possible they had simply decided they were going to buy a house if he signed and for the time being went to Toronto for the summer but always came off as fishy to me they already knew

It's not what he did, but how he went about it and what was said. Saying things like, "I hope it works out" is poor communication and he did that sort of thing repeatedly. Ownership seemed to be willing to do whatever was necessary to keep him, replaced the GM, hired a cup winning coach, and offered him top dollar, what about that didn't fit what he was looking for that he decided to walk away? Hoping it works out means that you're not getting something you're hoping for, what exactly was it? Seems to me that he wanted to keep his options open, which is fine, but don't sell the fan base on hoping to stay and not having thought about going anywhere else.

One day we'll get a tell all notepad memo from him when his career is over, then we'll finally know part of the truth.

You guys are still bellyaching about Tavares? Jesus -- get over it.

He repeatedly said he wanted to see "the whole thing play out" meaning free agency.... that is a clear sign that he wasnt guaranteeing his staying with the Isles. Very clear.

Tavares wasn't upfront around leaving -- but it's still on Isles to deal him beforehand so they don't get completed shafted when he leaves.

You should be more pissed at Isles incompetence than Tavares wanting to play for his hometown team.

The only thing making my belly ache is from laughing so hard at the Leafs falling on their face again

When it first happened, it was a seething hatred, at least as far as one can hate an athlete.

Now it’s mellowed into schaudenfraude brought upon fully by Tavares’ actions when he left AND the douchebaggery of cocky Leafs fan’s rubbing our noses in it while simultaneously planning multiple parades

In terms of teams I DONT want to see win thr cup, I he Rags are #1, but the Leafs are not far behind

Bones is right (for once). The bellyaching about JT in the playoffs thread… JFC.

Now for our regularly scheduled programming

Is Carolina sunk with Andersen? Seems like he usually shits the bed after the first round. I was expecting a closer game 1, Carolina got rolled.

I don’t trust Skinner for Edmonton. Good luck with that.

Yes, at this point we are all allowed to enjoy Tavares Schadenfreude. Like clockwork my You Tube algorithm places all the Leafs "autopsies" at the top of my page right after another early exit! I don't hate JT but I don't want him to have his fairytale ending with the Leafs. At this point, despite his 38 goals he's a liability, particularly in the playoffs where he is clearly wore down. He was slow of foot when he was on the Island, now he's a major liability come playoff time depite his sharp shooting abilities. He's turning into the 45 year old version of Jaromir Jager.

Laughing at the Leafs losing in the playoffs is very much related to the playoffs. In fact, since not every team can win the cup it’s the greatest joy many a hockey fan can experience in any given year

Florida does a real good job of raking advantage of their opportunities. Get the turnover, put the puck in the net.

Marchand has more drive, passion and dedication in his jock than most isles players have in their entirety.

Weak ass team.

I don’t find it easy to talk at a time like this, but I gotta say somethin about that Marchand guy there. And I can sum it all up in just one word. Courage, dedication, daring, pride, pluck, spirit, grit, mettle, and G-U-T-S, *GUTS*. Why, Marchand’s got more guts in his little finger than most of the Isles have in their large intestine, including the colon!

Carolina well on their way to padding their incredible record of 13 straight losses in conference finals games. Impressive.
