2025 Playoff Picture Western Conference Bring out Your Dead Edition

I’m not counting the Blues as a lock yet. They are without Parayko and Holloway and their next 3 games are Avs, Jets and Oilers. They could easily lose all 3.
The oilers isnt as tough a game as youd think. They are missing mcdavid draisaitl and ekholm

Calgary is 5 points back with 2 games in hand and they have 1 game left against the Wild.

The Flames also have 2 games against the Sharks and 1 against the Ducks.

The Flames actually control their own destiny, not the Wild.
Um wild and flames both control destiny. Flames have to beat wild to control destiny. Wild control their destiny too cuz if they win out, they obviously beat the flames

I think it’s wrapped up.

Flames essentially have to go 5-1, with the added twist that they can’t lose to the Wild.

Do the Wild go 2-3? I don’t know.

I believe the number is 4.5 between the Wild and Flames. So the Flames dont have to go 5-1 and the Wild dont have to go 2-3. It boils down to who wins that head to head game, if the Wild continue losing and can the Flames beat up on the non playoff teams on their schedule.

Flames after beating Wild would still need to gain 2 other points on them. Doesn't seen unreasonable with Wild losing recently, but the last 2 games for each favors Minnesota schedule wise, so if they're merely tied after Calgary beating them, I think Minnesota might still get in. The Blues would have to go 1-4 to be in danger, while 5-0 would give them a chance at passing Colorado.

I'm feeling good about the Flames' chances especially after last night. If the Wild couldn't beat the Islanders I feel like it's unlikely they don't give up more points down the stretch.

I really don't understand why everyone was so eager to call the race last week. It was always headed in this direction.

Flames are down 5 points. Flames have 2 games in hand. If they win both. They are only 1 back. If they win game agaisnst wild plus games in hand, they are ahead

Canucks still fighing hard, albeit likely in vain. They might have nabbed that last playoff spot but for all that mid-season drama.

I’d say barring a major collapse from the Wild the playoff teams are pretty much set.

Calgary has the best chance.

I’d say the Canucks chances all but evaporated after a listless 5-0 loss at home. To Seattle.

Utah? Stranger things have happened but…nah lol.

I’d say it ends up:

C1 Jets vs WC2 Wild
C2 Stars vs C3 Avalanche
P1 Golden Knights vs WC1 Blues
P2 Kings vs P3 Oilers

My first thought at seeing one of the Stars/Avs titans having to go home in the first round? A Nelson Muntz “Haha!”.

I also think the winner of the Pacific is going to have their hands full with a surging Blues team. Good luck, Golden Knights or Kings.

Huge point for Calgary to take against Vegas. All the pressure is now on Minnesota against an angry Stars team tomorrow.

The Wild need to beat Calgary and hope to take some points out of Vancouver and/or Dallas. But given how they've been playing, it's even debatable if they'll take care of business against the Ducks and Sharks.

Flames sure lost an important 2 points and RW tonight. Think their hole is too deep now. Dustin Wolf has played great, but wow I don't know if I have seen a team that breaks down defensively like the Flames.

Pretty much have to win out now.

Everybody else in the West officially eliminated from the playoff race. No seeds decided yet though. Although Kings and Oilers seem inevitably destined to meet again.

Think I'm somewhere in this thread saying it'd be the Blues. After they hired Montgomery you could see it coming together. Still, what a streak they went on in the last 20 games.

Flames gave it their best college try. Would have been in if they played in the Leastern Conference. Didn't think they'd make meaningful games this late in the season so in some sense they exceeded expectations. In another they finished 9th in the West, an outcome I've seen too often in the last 20 years.
