2025 Playoff Picture: Western Conference Bring Out Your Dead Edition

Interesting, the Wild are slipping with the Avs breathing down their necks for 3rd in the central. I don't think Calgary will catch them for WC2 if they should fall that far but they do have 2 games in hand so it's still possible

Both Eastern Conference WC teams did exactly that last year (9 & 10 points back with ~25 games remaining). So it’s definitely possible.

But it’s almost more about some team just absolutely collapsing down the stretch (a la Detroit last year - 4 regulation wins in the last 23 games) as it is one of the current “outside looking in” teams surging.
To be honest I thought the Canucks would be out of the spot right now when Quinn went down and they certainly have been outplayed but have found a way to get points.

I also don't think that the Ducks are good enough to go on the type of run they need here but maybe next year with more experience.

The injuries are continuing to pile up for the Wild. No Kap. No Ek. Brodin is hurt now too. Key players they need are dropping like flies. Could be a very rough ride this month.

8 points in 22 games is really hard to make up when you are chasing.

Still a few out of it with a shot if they go on a big run. Blues and Utah still in this race.
Sure they are but that's because both teams are on 3 game win streaks and these things ebb and flow and the 2 teams they are chasing for that single spot have games in hand.

We'll see in a week if any ground is made up here.

That last week of March looks tough, NJ 2x, Washington, Dallas, Vegas. That's a rough 5 game stretch to end March on, but April looks better for the most part

Still they have to make up 6 points in those 24 games (7 of them against the other 4 teams in that race) and with the 1 point for OT and the 3 other teams to pass it's a huge hill.
It's a stumble right now. Canucks fans have to be concerned with Hughes sitting the last 9 minutes tonight. Ducks laid an egg. Calgary looks brutal against good teams.

Utah and St. Louis have made up enough ground to be in the race at the deadline.

You might be right about Ducks.

Utah, despite losing to New Jersey last night: we’re not dead yet! I still think we miss, but not by a lot, and we’ll be in the discussion until the last week of the season. However, probably on the outside looking in the entire time.

It's very possible that the Canucks don't make the playoffs but it's extremely unlikely that the Ducks will.

The other teams in the race are ahead and simply better.

The blues would be stupid to be sellers. I like their chances way more than Calgary.
They have always been better than Calgary. Blues D with a healthy Leddy is def the best by far of the bubble teams plus a post 4 Nations rejuvenated Binner gives them the edge despite the games in hand disadvantage. Key game on 3/20 when the Blues host Vancouver.

They’re hanging with Dallas, and I’m impressed by Dallas. I keep thinking Blues are cooked, but if it’s between them and Calgary- agreed.

St. Louis has Nashville 3 times on the schedule this month, Anaheim twice, 1 against Pitt and Chicago, so that's a lot of points to be earned against teams below them. Of course you have to win those games. But beating the Kings is keeping them in the race.

It looks like the Blues are playing to Montgomery's system now, and their defense is the healthiest it has been all year.

I think St. Louis gets in, as a Jets fan I'd like to see a Hellebuyck-Binnington rematch, with a different outcome.
But as a Jets fan I can't ignore that Dallas is looking increasingly like the team to beat in the West, and closing the gap on the #1 seed fast.
