Matheson deserves higher grades despite some brain cramps. He played lots of minutes against opponent »s top lines.

Dach - E or F
Newhook - C+
Struble - C+
Heineman - C+
Roy - E

Oups, I forgot Carrier - A-

How comes Evans gets a C+ but the other dudes from the bottom 6 get B or B-???
Evans had an an amazing first half and that alone puts him above the other bottom 6 guys.

Suzuki should be A+. He absolutely gave everything he had in the regular season to bring the team in the playoffs.
Hutson should have A (some very rough mistakes) but considering he is a rookie, I give him A+ as well.

The rest i would agree.

You forgot Newhook... i give him D+.

Suzuki just led the team to a playoff birth with one of the youngest rosters in history. He scored 89 points and played a two way responsible game. I just can't see him getting anything less than an A+. He was as top 10 center this year.

● Suzuki is definitely an A+. He led every step of the way and scored some huge goals for us. He was dominant coming out of the 4 Nations break. Unbelievable season from our captain.

● Evans gets a B from me. His PK work is outstanding. His work ethic is exemplary & he seems like a great teammate. He's a quality 4th line center.

● Slafkovsky also gets a B. Overall, he had a good season. He improved over the second half after MSL decided to move him away from Dach. Like Caufield & Suzuki before him, he's improved every year. Defensively, he's already solid & plays against other teams top line D & forwards game after game at 20 years old! Something not even Suzuki did.

He needs to improve his release & continue to upgrade his skating. He's still a work in progress.

● Matheson is a tough one. He's an A on the PK. A D on the PP and in offensive situations. His offense just absolutely died this year, and a B- defensively. I think it's time to move on from him. Hopefully, Hughes thinks so too.

● C+ to Anderson, Dvorak & Gallagher. Dvo had his best year with us & is a great face-off guy, but it is time to move on from him. He didn't bring all that much offense. Gallagher had a solid season. He didn't accomplish much in the playoffs though. Anderson is a tough hombre, but he has no hands. A good solid line, but we could’ve used more offense from them.

● F for Dach. Just awful then he got hurt again.

● Ds to Laine & Newhook. Newhook can't score. Laine can't skate.

Post-Mortem:

Hutson just had one of the best rookie season I ever seen as a Habs fan, what he did was exceptional and the kid has already established himself as an elite puckmover in the league. Kid has everything to become a top 3-5 offensive defensmeman in the league, well outside of the shot maybe, but still an immense talent with a Sydney Crosby like attitude, always looking at improving his game, always on the ice ect.

Suzuki has established himself as a solid 2-way top line center in the league, his IQ and talent level were on total display, especially in the last stretch of the season.

That top line was the best in the league since the 4 nations. Slaf got better and better in that last stretch too, I thought he was probably our best foward in playoffs and you start to see the impact player he is going to be in his prime, still very young.

The signing of Demidov was easily one of the best news in the franchise history, we got to see his immense talent and next year he will only be better, thats scary...

Guhle was finally healthy in that last stretch and helped us alot to qualify, thats another good news for the org. moving foward.

On the less positive side:

We had alot of hope that Dach would become that 2nd line center we were badly lacking, well his season couldnt have been worst, his on-ice play was pretty bad and then that injury ending his season... We cant count on him anymore until he proves otherwise, but while he might still end up as a decent winger, I have no more hope he can handle the center position adequatly.

Newhook will be a serviceable 3rd line winger, but I think its fair to say he was in the wrong chair all season.

Hughes will have a busy summer:

Needs to get a top 6 center, thats the priority, without that center, this team will keep struggling with secondary scoring, thats a huge hole to be filled.

With Armia and Dvorak leaving, we will need to fill those spots, I personally like Ryan Donato from Chicago as a UFA target, but Im sure there will be other attractive players to sign or trade for.

Reinbacher will likely replace Savard and I would trade Matheson and rely on the LDs we already have in the system..

Well thats about it, we will see what happens at the draft, but I think we will use some assets to fill the roster, July 1st will be interesting to follow too.

I guess its now time to say Go Rocket Go, they have what it takes to win the Calder cup IMO.

Always find grades very subjective, so will just add a few thoughts. Lots of positives this season.

Goaltending behind a young team that allowed many quality chances. I like both Monty and Dobes, believe they should both only get better.

On D, Hutson is the best qb since Marky and only a rookie, he's already a very good player. Watching him go head to head with Duhaime (6'2 200) tonight and winning a physical puck battle, he plays both ends. I like Guhle but would be good for him to get stronger, maybe spend some time working out with Gally. Seeing how patient the Jets have been with Logan Stanley, hopefully the Habs will continue to bring Arber along, believe he's needed. Carrier is a smart player, solid defensively, his size was exposed somewhat though with the level of physicality in the playoffs. Matheson is a good player, because of the lack of depth and youth on the Habs blueline, he's probably asked to do too much. Habs could really use some help in my opinion, Reinbacher may be one of those additions but believe the Habs would be wise to add 1-2 veteran d to the mix, especially with Savard retiring.

Up front, Suzuki is a beauty, consistent, continues to improve. Pretty much the same for Caufield. Slavkosky is still learning but should only get better. Demidov amazed me, he sure looks like the real deal. Anderson, Gally & Dvo made a nice line, good year. Evans & Armia nice pair on the pk. Some of these role players will probably be replaced in the next couple of years with the quality of youth already in the organization (hopefully a long playoff run for Laval this spring). Beyond that, haven't given up hope for Newhook but he still needs to find his place within the team (centre?, wing?). Don't know about the future of Laine. Maybe we will learn soon if he had been playing injured. Not a fan of Kirby Dach, don't know if he has a future with the team.

Some holes to fill for sure, good progress overall though. Need to become a harder team to play against which would bring down the goals against.

Hutson - Amazing offense, very poor D. Averages out to a B.
Carrier - Probably our most consistent defender after Guhle
Laine - I wanna see you try playing on one leg jabroni
Gally - Scored beyond expectations, but a possession killer.
Slaf - Only turned it on in the second half, my expectations are higher for him
Heineman - Was a great forechecker until his accident, then turned into Heinewoman
Newhook - Saddled with two of the worst players on the team and still ended up with 3 less goals than Slafkovsky.

Ive had teachers that grade like you
I definitely don't want to smell what you're cooking

Gally getting the same grade as Hutson, or Slaf, is... Something 💩

Tough to grade some players.

Guhle had the injury.
Heineman got hit by a car.
Laine was injured, great on PP, terrible 5v5. How do you grade him?!

Suzuki A+
Hutson A+

It gets subjective from here…
Caufield A-
Slaf A-

Carrier B+
Gally B+
Evans B+

Anderson B
Dvo B
Army B

Newhook C

I don't judge players based on point production.

I take into account certain nuances that are far beyond your capacity of understanding.

But I digress, I will not debate the matter with low-level intelligence.

Newhook D
Carrier B-
Dach D
Guhle A-
Heineman B-
Savard D-
Struble C
Xhekaj C-
Kapanen F

I liked everyone one except for Dach, Newhook, Roy and Matheson even though I think he’s a victim of being wildly miscast.

Everyone else gets at least a passing grade ranging from A to D, Hutson/Suzuki to Savard.

You also don't seem to mind glaring hypocrisy and inconsistency in grading... But, competent assessments aren't everyone's forte, neither is the understanding of concepts like nuance.

Ignorance is bliss they say..

Enjoy lol
