2025 Offseason Talk

Or maybe he did a poor job of adjusting to help his PK unit that had become a weakness. Great coaches don't stare at a problem hoping it'll fix itself.
So you want Harley to play #1 Dman minutes at 5v5, PP1, and PK1?

Or Miro, fresh off injury?

Come on dude. They were already playing ridiculous minutes, what's however many more Marchment or Benn decide they need to play?

We got beat by the better team.

He's hit the WCF 3 years in a row, that's a huge accomplishment, whether you want to agree or not. There's so much luck, and health, that goes into playoffs, it's ridiculous to fire a very successful coach because he can't make the finals. Do we want to be Vegas? They got so lucky winning the Cup the next year with a new coach, and now they can't make it out of the 2nd round.

PDB is still one of the most successful coaches in the league, and he won't make it over the hump until the stars align, like every coach in the league that's ever won the Cup.
It's not because he "Can't make the finals"
It's because he's clearly worn out his message with the players, and has started throwing players under the bus looking for scapegoats for those failures.
Yes Oetter needs to be better than he was in the WCF, he never could come up with that save until it was too late, so he deserves some critique.

DeBoer lost the players with his tirade against Jake, the team went from 100% he's coming back, to very likely terminating him, in 4 days. Reviews from the room must not be good for DeBoer for that much of a 180.
Team is going to be 100% worse next year than it was this year, You want to wait to see what damage DeBoer can do with players that are apparently already unhappy with him.

Went from a 100% keeping him, to "allegedly" termination in 4-5 days. That's a lot of negative from the room to cause that.

What tirade?

You raise a good point. Not only did DeBoer make no changes to a struggling PK but he also didn’t bench or scratch either guy responsible for most all of the stupid penalties putting this shell-shocked PK on the job game after game.

I agree the Oilers are a better team, but it also seems like they are better coached.

Yeah Bourque was really gonna save the season

The Robo rumors do sound to me like they felt going forward that Rantanen was an upgrade at that spot and now they want to get a significant improvement on Stankoven and picks out of a Robo deal.

f*** yes! Fire DeBoer and win a Cup next season? Sounds f***ing awesome! I don't give a shit what happens for at least the next 5 years after that.
Would be nice to be able to guarantee that, but firing one of the best coaches in the game for either an unknown or a rehash isn't gonna guarantee crap.

I think many would take a cup win after 26 years of failing to do so. It's very hard to win in the cap-era and you have to maximize every opportunity, especially when you make the playoffs, to win the cup. If it's the combo of management + coach + certain players not working out in maximize those opportunities, then some of them have to go.

Trade Marchment and Dumba.

Keep Robertson.

Go find a 2nd pairing Right hand D through FA like Dante Fabbro..

and if you strike out and there is none there play with what you have and look for an in season deadline trade for one.

Team will be good enough to be top 3 in central again by the trade deadline even if you only make the moves above, if you need to full that hole do it in Feb, if you can't in July.

Yep, said that the day Rants was traded for. Robo's days were numbered at that point. Makes too much sense to get your assets back and view it as a winger upgrade.

Quick Pete thoughts- think he’s a great coach but it only takes one boneheaded move like he did to lose the room and make this an easy decision. Nico was a great GM until he traded Luka. OJ was a hell of a guy by all accounts until he murdered two people. So on, so forth.

Just Luka? While that is one of the dumbest trades of all time he also let Brunson walk out the door. Nico was never great. He is Jerry and Stephen level dumb.

Brunson was never staying, and the mistake was made before Nico when Donny Nelson decided to wait and see on Jalen’s 4 year extension. After that happened, he was as good as gone.

Not trying to hold water for the guy, but the Kyrie trade, as well as the moves to get auxiliary pieces around Luka (PJ, Gafford, Klay, so on) were executed well. Just so happens he killed his golden goose for no real good reason. f*** him.

It is strange how Elysian is defending Deboer to the death kinda like MK88 bags on Nill. Interesting to get the overplay on both sides
Everyone needs a fall guy. I remember when people like M88k didn't expect us to make it out of the first round, now we far exceeded that and PDB should be fired.

Fabro is too expensive. Assuming you can find 4th/13th forward/7th d @950k and resign bourqe(2x2) and ludkvist(2x1.5) at rfa market rate you have about 7.25mil to
1) Resign benn (market rate 2x4.8)
2) Replace duchene (market rate 3x7)
3) replace marchment

3 roster spots all forwards

The year after we resign both robertson and harley you have a bit less room so any signings they make this season has to leave enough room for 26-27. Considering that they have only 6.5 mil to work with for longer term contracts.

edit put afp cap projections for ben and duchene
