2025 Offseason Talk

What Neil Graham has done down there is super impressive and I don’t see why they wouldn’t go down that route, especially when you look at Edmonton. That’s exactly what they did. Hired within.
No they didn't, they pulled him out of NYR system. He was hired out of Hartford

On the ahl coach; I think the best coach hire nill has made was to hire monty, I dont hold monty developing achoholism as a thing you can foresee. Hiring guys that dont have experience in the nhl isnt a negative imo.

on robo
the stars do not need to move him if they move marchment and dumba. They just need to fill their roster diligently. I kinda gamed out how much overlapping cap they have to work with in 26-27 using forsberg and miro as contract comps for harley and robo, The others are just filler https://puckgm.puckpedia.com/rosters/610526

They don't need to trade him it's two fold issue.
One they have a grudge against him based on how prior negotiations went.
Two they didn't think his play will hold up with his skating issues. Which is funny because he's allot like Pavelski in that his skating isn't what makes him good, like say it is for Hintz

Things didn't always go great with Graham back when I was a Texas Stars STH, but he's definitely gotten better and better.

Two thoughts- how is it not Harley, or even Heiskanen as long as we’re having this conversation, that gets moved here? Not that I’m advocating for it, but if the defense was humming while Heiskanen was out- it almost seems like Harley can’t play to his potential while sharing duties with Heiskanen for whatever reason. On paper, a defense with a top 3 of Heiskanen, Lindell, and Harley shouldn’t struggle the way they sometimes do. I feel like it’s been an issue going back to at least last season.

Regarding the DeBoer situation- the discourse is kind of beating a dead horse and I’ve stayed out of it, but if some of the players didn’t like how it was handled, thats totally different. Any speculation about him not losing his job was based on that they’re professionals and they understand. But the players know more than us about their relationship and how that situation was handled on and off the ice. He might start the season, but if it’s clear the players are tuning him out- I wonder. Especially if it was a guy like, say Benn, who will realistically will be on the roster- and the players will follow.

I have always thought Monty was his best hire as well. If Nill wants he can go back to that same well and grab the guy who replaced Monty in David Carle.

The problem I see with Robo is he needs a very good passer to be truly effective. When Hintz would fly up the middle and Pavelski put it on the tape he lit it up. I think his shot takes some effort getting off so he needs to be more open to shoot. He does not skate well enough to do that. I have no problems reading him for upgrades in the defense or a forward with a similar skill set and mindset of Brady. I just don’t know who on the forward side is available like that.
