2025 Offseason Talk

According to Duchene the team was told not to respond to Nurse. Deboer called his team soft before the game even started. Told them they are not built that way. Screw Deboer. I wanted him gone after the collapse in the regular season. I want him gone more now.
He couldn’t get his team going in the first period almost the entire year. That’s a coaching and leadership issue.

That’s a little too far. Nill has done a good job. As much as I want to see a cup win Nill is on the right track. A few things need to change but I am very happy with him and Chris Young even though he is now the president but he did bring a World Series.

Moving on from Nill you could get someone who is bad. A Nico Harrison type where you trade your superstar player for old guys. Or could be a clueless as The jones boys (probably no one will ever be that clueless) but you risk taking a major step back. Nill is on the right track.
I did say he is good. Has he done some great things, and good things. Yes. Has he done some stupid things. Yes. Do I feel his creation right now good enough to get this team to a cup? No.

And why should you only assume the guy you'll get in as replacement for Nill will be worse than he? Why could he not be replaced by someone better? Why is that out of the question?

Nill's been on the "right track" for 12+ years now and the D is still underwhelming and doesn't look championship caliber. This team isn't winning the cup the way it is right now.

Who knows there's a lot of possible names out there.
Oilers have gone to 2 straight cup finals after promoting an AHL guy.
Yep, Oilers did it and Florida changed their coach after winning the President's Trophy for a guy that people thought had his best coaching years behind him. Sometimes change is needed, but I can't see Nill doing it either.

Nico Harrison is a one in a million f*** up.

That doesn't happen in sports. So acting like its a possibility to get a GM to f*** up like that is ridiculous. Also we have no idea if the ownership of the Mavs were purposefully trying to tank the Mavs or if the NBA had other motives in forcing the Mavs hand for the Lakers etc etc etc. There's a lot of conspiracy behind the Nico trade but trading your all star is not something that happens on the regular so let's not act like replacing Nill is going to result in the hockey equivalent of getting a Nico.

Chiarelli is still out there. So there's some dimension where it could happen.

WHAT? There is a long list of shit GMs out there. Pay attention to sports. There are awful GMs in every sports league. Don’t assume a really good GM is out there that can replace Nill. That is very naive thinking.

We're staring at a future where Nill is trading an All-star player (robertson) in a couple weeks

Seravalli is a dipshit for a number of reasons, but no shit Otter will be here longer, he has an 8 yr deal and coaches are always the first to go when teams fail because they're the easiest to move. 😂
Like him or not he gets paid to do what we all do for free. I don’t always agree with pundits especially the bias Canadian ones.

Either way I more so pointing out that there may be a reason Pete has never won a cup.
