Speculation: 2025 Off-season Thread

He still has 21 points in 16 games. Hockey is not a one man sport. Dallas is getting nothing from guys like Robertson, Duchene, also getting less than what they should from Johnston
If the AVS didnt blow that lead in Game 7 when they were in control of the game, no one would give a shit about Rantanen and the same people who praised him would praise MacFarland because he made the right choice....

Thanks to Girard´s skate we have to deal with this bullshit.

We blew that series against Dallas in a big way....And thats it. You can watch right now how "good" this Dallas-Team really is (guess what, they arent the big bad contender everyone saw them). They are getting clowned by Edmonton again.

Talking about Edmonton: Hats off to them. McDavid, Draisaitl, and even their D look like a team on a mission. Thats how leaders play.

Makar should take a discount after that disaster of a playoff showing. Yes, I'm still pissed at him.
An important topic and a problem in the cap era.

Either you want to make as much money as possible, or you give up a little money and have a team that is capable of winning every year. (If you're not in a rebuild).

Started with the AVS in this cycle with Stastny and goes all the way to Mikko and probably beyond. There are players who think like a GM, unfortunately too few.

So I think CMac's hire is good in principle, but the execution could be better.

If Brock no longer prefers to surf at Long Beach L.I and no longer prefers to live next to the ocean then maybe he will sign with Avs. There is no other good 2nd line center available to sign this off season.

Connor McDavid always dreamed of paddling down the Colorado River.
What an odd duck.

Actually, if I had to pick one person in the NHL who may have ever dreamed of paddling down the Colorado River... it would have to be either Jack Johnson or Dougie Hamilton. I have no idea why... but it just strikes me as a very Hamilton thing.

Big buff loved the country, big reason he was willing to stay so long in WPG.

Bobby Ryan was another who was a known country boy, and super into fishing.

Duchene is probably the one who dreamed of anything involving Colorado though lol.

dude's a free agent in a month and a few days.

Could you imagine a scenario where he shows up at training camp and MacKinnon greets him with a big handshake and says, "You can be my wingman any day Dutch!"

Yeah, me neither.

If I hadn't seen a picture of him sitting on Landeskog's couch recently I might feel like its completely impossible.

As of now I am in the most likely impossible tear lol.

Part of me thinks Gabe is just too nice a guy to tell Dutchy to f*** off when he calls him. EJ probably gives him shit all the time about it.

Dutchy said they should hang out together in the off season in the handshake line, and it looked very much like one sided interest.

I'm sure some of that was because Gabe was crushed from losing, but I also feel like Matt is trying to force his way back into the good graces of the Avalanche, and found a loophole with Gabe.

Maybe, would be absolutely nuts if he returned. Weird shit happens though.

Landeskog was at the head table of Duchene's wedding. I feel like fans overestimate how much players care about what happened on the ice. I remember fans getting butthurt because Sakic went on vacation with Bertuzzi.

Nah they're genuinely good buddies, their kids hang out together and they in all likelihood have remained good friends despite the trade. They were together for more than 6 years, after all, as teammates.

I don't expect the same to be the case for players like MacKinnon and Rantanen who weren't teammates of Duchene's as long. MacKinnon even still was his teammate for over 4 years but that situation was probably a lot more dicey because IIRC at the time of the trade there was a "who is the alpha in the room?" sort of question and as soon as Duchene left, MacKinnon took off.

I'm just going to put these here for people who think Landeskog only tolerates Duchene. They're obviously good buddies.

I'd love for Duchene to come back because at his price tag he's probably the best 'bang for your buck' center on the market that the Avs can plug into the 2C hole.

But after the very public delayed trade request and the fans booing him for years, I'd be absolutely shocked if he ever came back. It's probably more likely the Avs trade for ROR, than it is Duchene willingly comes back to Colorado.

He can come back on the some condition that his team picture is perpetually that infamous grumpy face one of his

I've never doubted Matty and the boys were still tight. I believe they're all still fairly tight with Radar as well.

I just wonder how tight Matty and the Avalanche fan-base in general are.

because Sakic went on vacation with Bertuzzi.

Was that before or after the Moore-Incident?

Eh, at this point all the assets that we got from that Duchene trade have been squandered (I know G is still here, but I'm on the trade G train). May as well bring him back. If we can get Nelson back, and Dutch on his wing, we can have 2/3rds of a grumpy team picture line.

It would be hilariously ruthless to have the money to bring back Drouin, then turn around and give it to Duchene.

Very little chance, but the side of me who roots for chaos would enjoy it.

Using Duchene at 2C though? Mmmm, color me skeptical.
