Speculation: 2025 Off-season Thread

I don't like the term there. He'll be 136 at the end of that contract
Nelson winning the cup with the Avs at the end of his 8 year contract in 2034, surrounded by his great great great grandchildren

We haven't really been hurt by it or benefited on the ice I think. It's been fine in the odd game. Seems to make carrying less players easier transaction wise.

Yeah, I think that's exactly what it is. Allows them to go with a 21 man roster in a pinch for cap reasons if they need to, or 22 with one guy banged up and questionable to play.

They know they're covered at F or D if need be. Especially now with the Eagles down the road in an emergency. Less chance of getting burned by it, and it probably wouldn't be for more than 1 game at most.

We were conditioned by years of experience having one physical basically worthless winger stapled to 12F for so long. A game here or there we don't even blink at.

I kinda prefer the Goon though lol. If we're going to suck here soon I hope we hire a coach who loves a physical team and they get all of the nastiest mofos they can find while Mack and Makar walk over corpses.

I want to be that crazy Anaheim team pissing everyone off while having like Ghetz and Perry left. Mack will definitely buy into that shit lol.

I want like Bennett, Kane, Wilson, Crouse, Landeskog forwards throughout the lineup, and four Josh Mansons on defense behind the top pair.

For the record I think Cmac agrees with me. Bednar does not lol. Might be the most hilariously true narrative here.

Cmac attempts to build tough team, Bednar neutered it every time. Cmac gives Bednar a second line in Necas and Nelson. Bednar doesn't use it.

If we're not going to win another Cup I want to hate f*** the rest of the NHL every single game for the rest of Mack and Makar's careers.

This is fetish level shit, because in no way do I want to watch that sad sack of an attempt to cling to relevance that we watched after Roy retired.

Please God no..

Are you also not of age to live through another rebuild and watch the Avs win the cup again in year 2067? Meaning are you also as old as I am? :sarcasm:

I am so dreading another lengthy bubble team, followed by a lengthy rebuild like this too. I might have to start watching basketball or something.

Just make Commander Guenin the GM and let me check out for a decade.

I think we should bring back EJ on the training staff. The locker room loves him, and it obvious he can't skate anymore. So if he does hang em up, which I think he will now, that's what im hoping for.

Development coach would be good. He could help young defensman the same way Cogs does for forwards as a "Special Assistant to the GM."

Or a third assistant behind the bench. Avs probably won't pay for that though.

Yeah, I was worried about it immediately after the cup win. The decisions since absolutely dictate if that was the 96 team, or the 2001 team.

It's not over yet, but every decision could be the difference.

I wonder every offseason or TDL if this will be the one we say broke us.

I've probably got one more in me. I was 12 when the Avs came into existence.

10 or 15 more years sounds about right lol.
Our last rebuild took about 20 years, so if that trend continues, let’s just make an estimate. This current core goes another 5 or 6 years without winning the cup, then we start a rebuild in 2030 or 2031, and im gonna assume it’s unlikely we draft another Nate and Cale so a longer rebuild requires.

In the year 2050 we have a team built which starts making the playoffs but not a true contender yet. That goes on for 5 or 7 years before we really become a true cup contender.

Then another 2 or 3 years when we get close but lose in conference finals to Dallas 3 years in a row. So that brings us to year 2060, then we finally beat Dallas for the first time in million years and win the cup in 2061

Just re-checking some math.

Took us 20 years to rebuild after the 2001 win.
Gonna take 40 years to rebuild after the 2022 win.

I hope the Avs win another cup in my lifetime. But I can also admit that I was lucky enough to be able to witness and enjoy the 3 that they got.

Living in Montreal, all my friends were still sucking on their moms titty when they last won a cup.

Perspective.

Yes, we won the cup after 20 year rebuild after 2001. The next rebuild will take longer before we win the cup again because as I mentioned, we probably wont draft another Nate and Cale so it’s gonna be a longer rebuild.

But it’s not 40 years. We win the cup in 30 years after the rebuild. So a 10 year difference just because we won’t draft another Nate and Cale.

Sounds about right

I can live 21 more years maybe!
